Avoid the Imate JAM! |

I thought I was going to the next step of PDA/Phone bliss with the JAM! Boy was I wrong, first off it lacks several of the custom features that the P900 has. It does NOT resize photos. The memory is pathetic without a huge memory card. The speaker is weak so rings are often missed. It does NOT vibrate and ring at the same time. And during a call the sound is very tinny because the sound reverberates off the metal casing causing a buzzing with each sound. Also forget about dialing or texting one handed! This thing's touchpad is too small and the wrong keys are often pressed. Also this thing crashes more than Matthew Perry after happy hour!
Thank god my ebayer is doing a full refund and return of my P900!
I'll just have to wait until the rumored "PX". |

Bad luck there mate - there's generally quite a lot of positive feedback on the Jam around here. Perhaps this should be continued in the other Jam thread here

Sounds similar to the Orange SPV M1000, I've never seen anything crash as often as they do

They should have added a qwerty keyboard or at least a numeric keypad. It's a big mistake. |

I was going to get a Jam too, but when i looked at the specs i realised it really only outperforms my current XDA2 with its 1.3mp camera.
I recommend waiting for the next XDA / MDA etc.

it does have a numeric pad, this guy valmont is complaining & wingeing like a woman, i have the jam so far so good, the actual phone software pad is big larger than the hardware pad. since i had my jam last december it only crashed about 4-5, times, and thats becuase the memory was too low, now that i got a 1gig sd card everythink is sweet. valmont what do you mean memory is crap? its 64mb, its the same as the p910. i think the speakers are very loud and great, and its is very loud, you must have a defected jam.
this pad is wider than the usual phone pad, i have no problem inputting character.

Valmont1978,
That's the IMate Jam, a first release like the P800. Several firmware upadates have cured the issues you mention. I have gone from a P905 to an MDA Compact (a T mobile Jam) widely acknowledged in the PPC world as the best version. Can't speak for the Jam but my MDA sounds very good, does resize photos, has 64Mb memory and does not require any of my installed apps installed in internal memory therefore it runs fast. I do miss the keypad (I didn't remove the one on my P905) but some prefer their Pxxx without. Other larger virtual keypads can be installed. It does not constantly crash as you suggest. Maybe the MDA ROM? It takes as much external memory as you can afford. A 1Gb SD card can be found for £40. It is truly instant on- no boot time (PPC's are never off). Yes it is different from P900, but I am loving it. The vast wealth of FREE and EASILY obtainable software alone is a big draw for me. I've had it 2 days and have got more software than I ever hoped to have on my P905 and that cost me a bundle.
Yes the P9xx does some things better, but the "Jam" does MOST things better. (and the free O2 GPRS too!) |

just out of a curiousity, but what the hell is a p905? do you mean the p900? or the p910? or is that what your part of the world call it? but i have just met you and i like your taste in PPC's lol i can see valmont have been offline for a while lol he must be sleeping or regreting that he gave the peanut butter jam away

i ve been using ms smartphone then decidedd to try out the p900 ,im suprised that despite its popularity the apparent lack of free /reasonable software is offputting imight actually consider getting the jam |

Ive tryed the Jam out and i thinks it pretty good, call quality could be better and the screen isnt as big as most pocket pc cometitors, so i still kept my p910i. It is however by far the best product to come out of the HTC factory. (better than the Xda 1 and 2),
if you really want a pocket pc tho check out the I-mate pda 2k it looks pretty good.(aka vodafone= Vda;
T-moblie= mda
o2 = xda2ii
and im not sure about orange,)

yeah the pda2k is good but you can't compare it to the i-mate jam because the jam is so much smaller and more pocketable, just more like a normal phone.
