I thought I would ask SE about the P800 SDK & in particular, availability of the P800 PC emulator which comes with the SDK so that I could see what a P800 was really like without having to pay $998 for the development kit.
The response I recieved indicates that the SDK will eventually be available for free in September. Great news for all us arm chair programmers wanting to right code & should give confidence that freeware & shareware will grow for the P800.

Hi Andrew,
Since the Symbian OS 7.0 UIQ SDK is still in beta Sony Ericsson and UIQ Technologies deliberately took the decision to make it available only as integrated with the Codewarrior tools and with the basic support. The reason for this was mainly to control the amount of feedback on the beta SDK as well as a limited availability on the P800 prototype hardware.
In mid-September the final SDK will be made available in a separate package for free as well as a pJava-only SDK. At that time the Codewarrior tools will rev to v2.0 with new exciting features, such as on-device debugging, a greatly improved compiler, etc... The tools by themselves will be priced the same as today at $995 USD. No support requirements will be put on any of these solution, but to get access to prototype hardware that is still the case even then.
We believe that this will prove to be a good solution for you and other developers. We also hope that you are as excited about the P800 as we are.

I hope you are right. If this turns out to be true, maybe I'll buy that P800 after all.
