Welcome to Esato:
The S700 doesn't support PRO Duo & these won't work at all.
You can buy a normal Duo even if it is 'Magic Gate', it will work. It just means that the phone won't utilise the faster data transfer rate of magic gate but it will still operate as though it was a normal Duo

MikLSP is nearly there. You can use any Memory stick Duo except the "pro" version. The "magic Gate" part does not effect the S700i in any way. magic Gate is a copy right protection "thing" that Sony designed so that you cant just copy copyrighted material using a memory stick, but on all Sony ericsson phones this is ignored.
To sum up, the S700i will take any memory stick duo, except `pro`, even if it says magic gate on it.

So (off topic) does magic gate not affect data rates, in a compatible devices that is, & is purely a copywrite thing?

The card written magic gate means that it can read/write the data that has encrypted with magic gate technology. So it wont be affected non magic gate/unencrypted data.
