I live between Warrington and St.Helens in the North West of England. I have only found one shop (Carphone Warehouse) that updates the phone software and they charge £30 for the pleasure . I don't really want to splash out £30 for this (but I will if I have to). First though I thought I would check some things out here.

1) Is it worth updating checking my Firmware I have the 1st version (T-Mobile kindly do not update the phones as they stick their Krap on it) what features do the upgrade add and what does it fix?

2) Does anyone know a cheaper place than car phone warehouse within 10 miles from St.Helens or Warrington?

3) I have been told that the flash my phone, does this mean I would lose all my lovely pictures, tune & themes I have made,dl'ed & found?

Thanks for any answers you can give.

You might want to specify what phone you have and what software version you have on it.

If you have a DSS-20 or DSS-25, you can either update online using SE's Update Service (bit flaky) or DaVinci. The first is free, the second costs 6 sterling or so. If you have a T28 cable, you can use setool.

And yes, you will likely lose all your stuff. So back it up first, send it over bluetooth or over your DSS-2x to your PC.

The irony of it all is that buying a DSS-20 + DaVinci credit is probably cheaper than a single upgrade from carphone warehouse. However I think they give free upgrades if you're under warranty.

Sorry I thought it was in my SIG

My phone is a T630 and the only lead I have is a USB cable.

I know my software is a early version due to the fact I phoned T-Mobile months ago to whinge about it, and they said it was a Sony issue.

@ mers

You cannot use the SEUS for the T630.

@ Villordsutch

Is your handset still under a year old? If so, Carphone Warehouse shouldn't charge at all.
