Hi guys,
I'm a little new to this so please forgive me.

I've recently got a T68 from the car phone warehouse in their deal for orange customers. (old phone for T68).

By reading some of the posts on here it sounds like I can upgrade this to a t68i with a software update.

How do I go about doing this?

Some posts say take it to a service center but I've looked on the sony-ericsson site and I can't find a link anywhere to tell me where there is one.

Please help.

I'm on Orange and living in Gloucestershire.

Thanks.

Goto the Sony Ericsson Website and and you can either email them or phone them to find your nearest authorised service/ repair centre, they will then do it free of charge!

Call the CPWH where you got your phone from. Ask them if they are a service center. If yes - they will upgrade, if no, ask them where the nearest on is.

Also try the search function on ESATO. (top of page)

I'm in a similar situation in the same area, so perhaps you could post the details of the service centre you used once you've had the upgrade done.

I bought my T68m on Sat, and today I learnt that I have to send my phone 52 miles to my nearest Service Centre in Leicster just to get the T68i software! The cheek of it!

Ring this number - 08708990000 (sony ericsson helpline), they will tell you your nearest service centre.

I was told that my nearest service center was berkshire or something like that.

I said that it was too far for me to travel they suggested sending my phone off to celestica in telford.

I rang the CPW in gloucester and they told me that orange don't support the upgrade yet but probably will in a few weeks and when they do I can take my phone in to them and they will send it off for me.

Unfortunately Celestica gave me the "won't touch Orange with a bargepole" answer when I rang them earlier. Looks like I'll just have to wait. F'ing Orange.

I take it that the problems the people had with Celestica was prior to the T68i coming out on Orange last week.

It may well be worth giving them a ring and asking if the situation has changed since the official release of the i.

After all as the i has been released on Orange they are officially supporting it. As the upgraded m is no different from the i they must support that too. That's my guess. Bet I'm wrong though!!

If in doubt take it to an Independent like Warnercomm in Reading and they will send it off for you. They did mine a month ago and I have had no problems!!

As you can tell by the signature I am no longer a big Orange fan!!

gazobee, unfortunately I rang Celestica this morning (24/7/02) and that is when they told me "no go on Orange". My guess is SE haven't produced (or Orange haven't tested) the 68m->i upgrade that preserves all of Oranges firmware customistaions. More cynical people have suggested they haven't released yet because they want to keep the T68i at an over-inflated price (the 68m is available at 49.99). I will try an independant though.

Orange has its plus and minuses. Free Orange care is great. Delaying handset/firmware upgrade releases is frustrating, as is customised software. I guess you don't get one without the other!

The thing that really peeves me off is Oranges handset upgrade policy. E.g. When I bought my t68m IF I was I new customer it cost 79.99 from an independant + free stuff. Upgrading to keep my existing number cost £179.99 (or something like that). I would have been financially penalised for staying ith Orange and keeping my number.

So I got a new number, went to cancel my old number and was told I could keep it on a Virgin OVP price match = no contract no, monthly charge, just pay for what you use and it'll be direct debited from your account. So I now have 2 phone + 2 numbers, one unused (just changed the answerphone message to tell people my new number).

That said the T68 was the same price as an Orange upgrade on other networks.

Next time I'll switch network for a while, keep my number using number portability (assuming you can do that without bein tied to a 12 month contract) and switch back again to Orange to get a cheap handset (taking my number with me!)

It sounds to me like you have had a mare with Orange.
I was lucky! I got my T68m on upgrade when they decided to do a special offer on the phone at £99.99 Plus if I sent my old Nokia 6210 back they would give me £50 plus vat for that. So my phone cost me a little over £40 on upgrade.

I hear what you say about the free Orange care. I must confess to having used it a few times. Mainly due to dodgy Nokias.
I'm just really unimpressed with Orange in as much as I can't get a decent signal at home unless I go upstairs or stand on a chair.
I work in an office at Chineham at the moment and guess what. Crap signal there too.
I rang Orange to complain about the upgrade fiasco and when the left hand finally told the right hand that it's arse was not infact it's elbow. I asked them what it would cost to get out of the contract as I was fed up with the poor service. The person on the other end even had the cheek to tell me I wasn't getting poor service from them.

Then there was the problem a couple of weeks ago when a huge amount of customers got no service for the best part of a day.
I asked for some form of compensation from them as my phone had been useless. They said as so many people had been affected I wouldn't be getting any. I laughed and asked them if that was there honest reply. In the end they gave me a days line rental as compensation. I shouldn't have had to ask for that though. They cocked up so they should have compensated everyone without question. If for example Virgin Trains fail to run a service you get compensation.

Enough ranting, I know all of the networks are crap in one respect or another. I have decided that I will try the grass on the otherside for a change. It may not be greener, just different!

Hi i'm with orange and it is possible to upgrade the m to the i just need to find a service centre luckily i live in two places miles apart and the first one i tried in slough said ohh no can't do orange tried one in pocklington this time yeah sure not a problem took 40 min. I find with orange the best thing to do is ring customer relations not services on 08000792288. these are the people that can actually do things and i managed to get my t68m when it first came out for free! Plus just keep at em don't lose ur cool and u can get loads of money back and stuff. Orange is good now that there doing ovp's i'm on o2 400 ovp now but have to keep my orange line 2 with everyday 50 to take advantage of cheap international calls which orange provide.I hear you bout coverage and signal though i normally get bout 5-10 min credited calls at the end of each month for lost calls.

Well, if you want a new phone from Orange, and you've been on the network without upgrading for more than 12 months, heres what you do, taken from another forum where I asked for advice on someone who approached me looking to upgrade a Nokia 3210e, which they'd had for 31 months, to the T68i on Orange, and here is the reply:

"At the moment standard price is £99.99 for an upgrade. However, go direct to Orange and you'll get the deal. Dial 150 from the handset you want to upgrade, go through to the option that says 'If you are thinking of leaving Orange, press ...' Tell them you want to stay with Orange, you want to upgrade, but the phone you want is £99.99 to upgrade to. Tell them you went to the local CPW who offered it to you FOC on Vodafone, and they told you you could keep your number too, like an upgrade just changing network. Stress the fact you would prefer to stay with Orange, but not so much you're prepared to pay £99.99 for a phone you can get for free on another network. You'll get the deal. Make sure you speak to the 'If you're thinking of leaving Orange...' team, they're the ones authorised to do the retention deals. "

So now you know what to do

Ah, crap. I wish I'd known that beforehand.

I wish Orange would offer the deal as standard without all the messing around. Good to know there are ways around it though.
