what is the difference between se and gameboy users? |
marcsteinemann Joined: Jul 09, 2002 Posts: 39 From: Switzerland PM |
i really start thinking that there is no difference.
most postings here are about ringtones, background images, hidden games and other things that definitely work better on a gameboy.
other people think that even if everything is running fine they absolutely must have the most recent firmware.
but only a small minority seems to use se for business. that must be the reason why se still does not support xp.
perhaps it is easier to satisfy thousands of kids with simple games and some bugs in background images than to satisfy business users that must rely on their devices.

Like what??? The fact that I don't need a PDA anymore (until the P800 comes out) cuz everything I need (Calendar, Outlook sync, email client, extensive contact list, WAP, Bluetooth, 3-band operation) is in my T68???
The ringtones and backgrounds are just customization options...you don't HAVE to use them.
If all you want is a phone, plain and simple ... get a Motorola. SE and Nokia are lifestyle phones... for business AND pleasure. I never thought the games were useful...until you're stuck in the airport waiting for a delayed flight... or if you're date drags you shopping. |

Hmm... Since you first replied with a similar post in the thread where I wrote that the only bug in R2E006 I've found this far is the bg pic bug in the game Erix, I feel that this post is in some way directed towards me.
Let me explain: I work as a purchaser for a retail company where as my main areas are GSM and PDA's. Thus I do not use my T68 as a gameboy, as commented, though I do of course on occasion play the quite fun games implemented in this phone to kill time.
As I frequently use most of the features on my phone such as IR, Bluetooth, GPRS, sync with Outlook, built in email etc on a daily basis in my job, I of course am most concerned about the business features having full functionality.
As most users have experienced this phone has been full of bugs in almost every software released this far. In every SW some bugs got fixed but also some new showed up.
That's why most T68 users are eager to always have the latest SW.
As you now have seen by yourself in this forum, practically every bug has been fixed (finally...) and that's why I for instance reported that the only bug I now know of is in the game Erix. That doesn't mean I don't use in a more proffesional way.
Anyways, glad you are satisfied with your phone as am I (also with the "fun" features such as games, themes, bg's etc).

i have nothing against games and other stuff on my t68mi.
but i certainly want to sync my phone with the laptop. this is not possible because irda is n ot supported on xp. the usb cable (dcu-10) doesn't work because it leads in 7 of then cases to a bsod when connecting the phone to the cable or the cable with connected phone to the computer.
this is definitely not professional. i could use serial port, yes but then i would have to carry the port bar with me all the time. not so nice.
meanwhile i use the tdk usb bluetooth adpater with my desktop pc and that works fine.
the tdk bluetooth pcmcia adapter still doesn't work although this is probably tdk's problem.
what do i expect from my phone?
-phone
-email
-calendar
-contacts
everything is nice to have but not necessary
and of course i expect up to date software because i need to sync all the mentioned stuff.
me too don't use any longer the palm. although it is not easy to check the agenda while on the phone and even if i have a bluetooth head-set, i don't use it all the time.

@BlurryEye
it was not only (but a little bit) against you
of course i'm happy too with the t68, as it is a very powerful device.
but don't you think xp should be supported, after 1 year of existence? |

support the business applications and work on their liability
it is not a mass market like the one for kids that like gaming, but there are people that PAY for what they need.
and when i look back, i paid a lot for my palm and my cell phone, now i use only the cell phone for all of the functions so i would have pais much more than i did for my t68 i know, kids can't.
maybe they should have something like a t68 for business, where the import things work and games are just a nice to have and t68 for kids, where the memory is full of games and images, ringtones...
perhaps i would buy one as i miss tetris. lol |

I definately think it should support XP. It's a big fault by SE . I however haven't got this problem as I use win98 on the cpu I sync with. Are you sure there's no solution how to fix it?
So you also use your phones most features and your a bit disappointed about a support issue, that's still no reason to dis people for talkning about/using the more fun features of the phone as you did in several threads.
Well anyways, I hope you get your XP problem fixed as soon as possible. |

no, i can't do it with irda and only sometimes with usb but with the bluetooth usb adapter.
hey bhargava, what do you like to say with your contribution?
se doesn't support xp, and if you have the ultimate solution sell it to se...
btw, i don't sync with ms office, i sync with outlook. |

I don't understand what you mean by SE does not support XP. I have XP pro and I am able to use the IR with my T68i just fine. I transfer images, ringtones, sync with MS Outlook. Am I missing something?

probably. i have xp pro too and also the most recent software.
i went to the se shop (it existed until the beginning of this month) and called and emailed se. the answer was always the same:
se doesn't support se.
what kind of hardware do you use? |

It seems strange that marcsteinemann cannot synchronize/transfer files with WinXP.. I am about to get myself a USB datacable (DCU-10), and I really hope I'll be able to synchronize my contacts, appointments, images, ringtones and so on with my computer which runs WinXP Pro... |

@bhargava
the dcu-10 has only one little problem with xp:
if you connect your phone when the pc is running, xp probably crashes eith a nice bsod.
shutdwon your xp, connect the phone, start your pc and sync. that works yes.
ps
you have pressed a key, please restart your computer..... |

T68i is fully compatible with XP and OutlookXP, the software you is on the disc or downloadable on http://www.sonyericsson.com/support
This is for both Ir, Bluetooth and Cable (seriel and USB).
I know because I've been using all of the above...
Ps : you need the gamez to kill time, good thing they are there
