Orange 3g Mobile Office Card - Anyone's views? |

Hi
I'd be very interested to hear from anyone who already has purchased an Orange 3g Mobile Office Card for their laptops. How have they found it; good investment?
Also, anyone else with any view/comments - would love to hear as I'm thinking of getting one but don't want to make a big mistake if there is some obvious alternative/solution that I have overlooked.

I got two for the company I work for as a few people were using the HSCSD data service built into their phones.
My initial views of it were that it was not as fast as I was expecting. The fastest connection I ever saw was 115kbps which is way below the 384kbps I think everyone was hoping for.
This was like on the very day of release for the cards so maybe the speed has increased somewhat?
They seemed fairly easy to setup and use, apart from a few difficulties getting VPN to work...think that was just my thinkin it was more complex than actually needed though.
As usual though if you have any problems or are a bit stuck Orange Support are more than happy to give you a hand.
I actually moved from O2 to Orange after realising how good the customer support is. |

...115kbps sounds v.dissapointing. I wonder if anyone else has managed to do better.
Also, does anyone know where I could find a map of wifi spots in the UK? (-also howing intended future locations, if possible). Theoretically, I would imagine if wifi becomes big enough, it would be possible to do without a 3g card... other than train journeys etc...
Another question...how can I tell how much data I am using when browsing the internet? Is it simply a case of looking in the temporary internet files folder and totting up or is there a simpler way of doing it?
Any thoughts much appreciated.

I think BT Openzone would be your best bet for looking for WiFi hotspots as thet seem to be the major player in that area at the moment.
Most service stations I visit have a hotspot.
As for data counting, I seem to remember the Orange app. has a data counter with it too.
Have a look on the Orange website. I seem to remember they have a lot of info about the software on their from a report I was writing about 2G, 3G, 4G.... |

3G is like gprs in terms of speed dropping per user online, but if you log onto 3G first in your area, you will connect with, and keep 384 until you disconnect.
Then any user after you will take 384 down to 128, and so on.
As far as I know, a data counter is built into the software interface as a guide only
