my friend has a problem with his computer, and i thought i would ask here, knowing i will probobly get alot of help.
he is using AIM, and every 7 minutes he says (i guess he timed it), his away message pops on for a second, with a link, and if someone clicks the link, and downloads it, they get the virus. i know everyone has heard of this before, (its a .pif file), but how do you get rid of it?? every time he opens almost anything, or tries to run norton or anything, he gets a pop up that says " Your current security settings prohibit running activeX controls on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly." if he opens the task manager, it automatically closes also. i know a few people with this problem, and all their away message come on at the same time.
he is running XP home, but not sure which service pack, if its necessary, ill figure it out for him.
anyway, can anyone help?? |

Yeah, try booting in safe mode, then run norton to catch the virus.
