Not sure where to start with updating my at&t/cingular t616 |

Hi all,
I am getting a bit overwhelmed with how to update the firmware on my t616 and unlocking features on it. I have done some 'googling' but I keep ending up on the spammer/scam type sites and I'm trying to avoid that.
If someone could point me to a good general information page or just link me to some threads or give me ideas of better keywords to search for that would be great. I know this probably gets asked a lot so I'm not expecting anyone to spend a lot of time writing out a response.
I gather that I need a dongle to flash the firmware on my phone, can I not do it through bluetooth and a serial connection profile? What is DaVinci? I found 'terminatordongle.com' is that what I need? Is it the best/cheapest? Are the other alternatives? They mention putting a t630 firmware on a t616 to improve features?
On the Bluetooth side, I have tried to use my phone as a modem using the modem profile on my PDA/Laptop, but it fails to connect. I have recently been reading about providers disabling certain bluetooth features to force people to use their accessories/services, did at&t/cingular do this to force people to buy Mmode?

Let me see if I can tell you everything you need to know. 
Firstly, yes you need a terminator dongle to flash the phone. I'd say the best place is eBay. I paid about 15 GBP for mine. You cannot use bluetooth.
Once you've got yourself a terminator dongle, you can find an excellent guide here.

first and foremost I don't think there has been a firmware release for the T616 in quite some time. To my knowledge the most recent version is R1B027.
Second, if you have a Cingular phone it should already be completely unlocked. If you have an AT&T phone, then there is a good probability that it is locked.
Be sure to check carefully if you need to do anything to your phone before invested so much time and energy.

It looks like I have the firmware you listed, however I was going off of the data on terminaldongle.com which talked about flashing the t616 to a t630 to improve performance....does this work? How much benefit will I see? Is DaVinci the 'Div' program that is mentioned on the link posted above?

And that is correct the latest is R1B027. Maybe you can give them a call and check.
