I was using infrared to transfer photos taken with my T610 onto a PC laptop, which was no problem until all of a sudden it tells me "connection failed", and now stubbornly refuses to transfer the pics. Just out of the blue. So now I have a whole bunch on the computer and a whole bunch stuck on the phone.

The PC is picking up the infrared because the little symbol comes up in the taskbar, but for some reason although it detects it, the T610 won't connect and send the pics like it was doing before. It's really frustrating me!

I have searched all over the web for a solution and found nothing. I even tried to download the support "modem scripts" from the Sony Ericsson site which was supposed to help it work better, but once I'd followed all the instructions on screen, and the downloading was taking place... it screws up. I left it for over 3 hours to test if maybe it just took a really long time to update the modem scripts or whatever it does, but no. It just doesn't work.

I'm at my wits end. Can somebody please help? Right now the only solution I see is chucking the damn phone off the balcony.

Hey! ;-) thats not a good solution. Let me TRY to help, can you send pics from pc to phone? And did you use any kind of software to do it?

Have you tried doing a 'hard reset' on your computer? I mean shutting it down and powering it back on using the power switch.

Do the same with your phone, just in case it does need it also.

Wow, that was quick
Well I tried sending pics from the PC to the phone since it was picking up that it was there, but again a connection couldn't be established. The PC also blamed the connection failure on the phone.

I've shut down and turned on the computer many times, especially since downloading the modem scripts thingie from the SE website today it's been messing up a lot.

It's been about 2 days since the IR suddenly ceased to work - I thought maybe if I left it to lie in peace for a while it might come around, but no such luck!

The IR device is set to enable, and it's status says that it *is* working properly.
So I figure it must be something to do with the phone.
Gah.

Thanks, I'll try that now.
Fingers crossed it works, or this phone will be spending the night out in the garden!

Is your IR on a dongle or built-in? It might be your dongle. And while you are at it, test your phones IR by sending anything thru it to any other phone that has an IR also.

If your IR is on a dongle, try uninstalling it. Restart the computer. Install the IR again. This is in case one or more of the IR's installation files got corrupted, somehow.

Great advice, but unfortunately my IR is built-in, not on a dongle. And I don't have any other phones with IR around!
Thanks anyway, though

Oh my god, I'm such an as$!
I just re-read over your advice a few posts up, and realised... hey, I've charged my phone, but I haven't actually turned it off.
So I turned it off and on again and ta-da IrDA is now working!!
I don't know whether to be happy or feel like throwing it off the balcony anyway just for being so annoying!!
Thanks guys for helping me out
