Digital Rights Management these ppl copyright the mp3. Only such ones can be played in voda k700i and v800. Incidentaly a packages allows you to get that digital copyright on to any mp3 so these can be set as ringtones. (I think)

Hi,

I've got a Vodaphone branded K700i and I'm trying to upload some mp3 ringtones. From the posts I've read, it is possible if the mp3s are properly encodes with the Sony Digital Rights Management Packager. I've tried this, but the phone still does not even show the dcf file I've created in its ringtone list. I assume I haven't used the right settings in the encoding step?

I've downloaded one of the dcf files that came pre-installed on the phone to try to find out how it was encoded so I can duplicated the settings but can't find any utilities that will give me this info.

Anyone know how the dcf files need to be encoded and/or how I can find out how an existing dcf file was encoded?

Thanks in advance,

LeCoq.

I've had trouble finding Sony Ericsson's DRM packager, but Nokia has one that will convert mp3's to drm's at:

http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/0,6566,034-13,00.html

A guide to using it is at:

http://www.quasimondo.com/archives/000521.php#521

Try using that. You have to register to their website as a developer, but it's free and it's easy as. I have a Vodafone New Zealand branded K700i and it worked a treat for me. The files are renamed .dm and the phone recognises them as mp3 ringtones.

Problem Solved. Have fun!

I've found the SE DRM packager at a dodgy looking German download site, but the program is legit.

http://rapidshare.de:80/files/1020142/drmpackager1.2.1.zip.html

Scroll down and click 'free download' in the little table, wait 20 seconds or whatever for it come up with 'Download: drmpackager1.2.1.zip', and away you go.

It does work, it's a smaller package than the Nokia one and the program is a little less resourse hungry too. Unfortunately, sethxp's one above on his site is corrupt and doesn't work. This one does.
