New S700i Unbranded Unlocked Mobile - awesome Except I cannot get my IPAQ 4150 to use the S700i as a Bluetooth Dialup Modem as I did very successfully with the T610. It just doesn't and won't recognise it. I believe I am all paired up fine and can transfer pics/etc... but cannot use the bluetooth dial-up element?

Can anyone help me out at all ?

Cheers Jabba

And now the good news.... found the answer on expansys forum courtesy of James (Sorry James I couldn't remember my log on to say thanks but much appreciated all the same)

Here's James' contribution...

First of all, pair your phone and PPC over Bluetooth and set up the data account(s) you want on your S700i. I have one for MMS/WAP and another for mobile internet/email. You can find the details for these in various places depending on your network. My O2 mobile internet settings are:

APN: mobile.o2.co.uk
username: web
password: web
IP address: server assigned (leave blank)
DNS: 193.113.200.200

Take a note of the CID (External ID) of your internet data account (not the MMS/WAP one as this may not work). To find this, go to Connectivity > Data Communication > Data Accounts and move up/down to highlight the account required, then select More > Account Info. The External ID is the second line down in the list that appears. Mine happens to be 2. (That's James - mine was 3 !)

Now if you go into your Pocket PC's settings menu, choose the Connections tab and tap the Connections icon. Under Bluetooth Settings tap Manage existing connections, choose the connection you have been trying to use and tap Edit. Tap Next on the name/modem screen. Under phone number, enter *99***x# (where 'x' is the CID you found earlier), then hit Next. Tap the Advanced button, and in the 'extra dial-string modem commands' box, remove anything that may already be there and just enter 'Z' (that's the letter Z, upper case and without the quotes).

I read somewhere that you need to use the 'Z' for the K700i as well after a certain firmware version.

Hope this is useful for someone.
James

And Yes James - it certainly was - thanks

I've got pretty much the same problem.

Here's the difference;

I have a K608i

I live in Denmark, and the APN is data.tre.dk

I've done everything by the book, and it still doesn't work;

I checked the CID (;"2")

I put in a "Z" (without the quotes) in the extra dial-string.

Can anyone help me?

PS.

(I've also tried the +cgdcont=1,"IP","APN"-string with and without the Z - off course this couldn't work since my IP is assigned by the server).

My 3G provider gave me this string: +cgatt=0 (but that didn't work either).

Did you try 3 instead of 2 for the cid code ? James had different settings to me... my comments are in brackets within James' posting...

Hi

Thanx for your tip - I kept on trying for 7 (!) hours, with the "Z" in the string, and the CID on 2 - and all of a sudden, it worked! I still haven't figured out how/why - perhaps a network failure was the original villain, or just me being a nookie

Thank you anyway.
