Yes you can use your mobile phones gprs connection to surf the net on a laptop. Make sure you have a full internet account and not only a wap account. Call up your operator for more. It will give reasonable speeds. Not that fast but good enough. Unless of course if you have EDGE!

Thanks for the replies....I wanted to know which is the fastest and cheapest method for transferring data....bluetooth dongle is around $30...I think data cable would be cheaper and faster.... also my telecom provider (orange in mumbai , India) does offer EDGE along with the normal gprs connection i.e. you don't need to apply for it separately....any one from India can you please confirm...

Buy a bluetooth dongle, and if you have XP SP2 the bluetooth module should install painlessly. You then need to pair your k700 to the pc via the bluetooth wizard in XP. Take note of the virtual COM port used by the k700. You may now be able to add a modem in the windows control panel, making sure the COM port is as above. You may now dial as you would with a regular 56k modem. The number is a special one that instructs the phone to make a gprs connection.

Doh.. K700 prevented from finishing post... here goes..

This phone number is:

*99**3#

The "3" in this number refers to the internet APN that your provider has set up in your phone. Find this out on your phone by:

Main menu >> Connectivity >> Data Comm >> Data Accounts >> (highlight Internet account) >> More >> Account Info

The number is is listed as External ID: (xx)

The username and password will need to be given to you by your provider, but it is usually blank.

Once this is all set up, connect using windows and all should be set!

Probably no cheaper, definitely no faster. Having used both, bluetooth is much much quicker than cable. Data cables aren't genuine USB devices, they just use the USB port to emulate a serial connection, which is slow.

Only trouble with bluetooth is the software, which can be a real pain to set up.

Good luck!
