Insurance Claims Headache!!! |

Hi, As a disabled person living in the United Kingdom and a first time experience of contract phones, I purchased a T68 five months ago only to loose it a couple of days ago. I am with Vodafone so I then proceeded to report my phone lost through their automatic phone service, they said that one of their representatives would call me back within 24 hours. I then reported the incident to my local police station and they gave me a crime reference number.
After numerous attempts to get through on the phone to a human being eventually when I did they said that because i hadn't had a police crime refence number within 24 hours of loosing my phone they said that the insurance company might not replace my T68.
At the moment I'm at my wits end waiting for the claim form to be mailed to me to fill in knowing that I might not get nothing. I did NOT know about this 24 hours reporting time (thought it was 48 hours) and kept looking everywhere for my phone. I am totally dependant on my mobile phone through my disabilty and illness, and also my daughter is disabled and confined to a wheelchair, it was pure ignorance that i did not know or realise about this 24 hours time limit. I reported the incident to the police within 48 hours of loosing my phone after a thorough search for it and did not want to waist anyone's time.
Anyone out there had same experience or have any advise for me please, thank you,

If you lost your phone, the moment you lost it is when you checked where you thought it was, and it wasn't there. So, whatever you tell them is when it happened, and if you tell them you didn't report to the police until you checked behind the sofa, and you needed someone to help you to do that (I don't know if you did or not, but this is the story...), hence it was reported lost as soon as that was done.
If they threaten not to pay, go public... But first, if you are having some problems, try and speak to a supervisor and explain your situation properly.
Good luck

Hi Bob,
I would suggest that you go through the contract agreement once again and see if they clearly mention that you have to report within 24 hours.
And if they do clearly mention that you should report within 24 hours, then see if you can tell them that you got your date of losing mixed up and you actually lost it on ... say... 24th June (even though it was really lost on 23June). So that way you are within 24 hours of reporting. Tell them as soon as you lost it you told the police and then you contacted them.
I hope others in this forum will give better ideas than me. Good luck. |

You have to sign the claim form which is a legal document and lying on that form is not really adviced.
Most insurance is contact the police within 24 hours, contact them within 48 hours and return the claim form within 21 days. |
