New touch-screen phone? |
Gaston Joined: Jan 20, 2002 Posts: 73 From: The Netherlands PM |
Having owned the SE P800 since the day it was released, I now want to switch over to a new UMTS / 3G phone. One of the best things about my P800 is the touch screen input, which proved ideal for SMS.
I like the t-mobile MDA Compact, but it is not UMTS.
I like the Sharp V902, but it's got no touch screen.
I like the SE V800, but again, no touch screen.
Which (soon to be released) phone would be for me, considering the following is essential:
- Touch screen
- 3G UMTS
- 1.3 Mpixel camera or higher
- Bluetooth
thanks

So there currently is no phone to exactly meet your requirements?
Does it REALLY need to be 3G

Yes, it HAS to be UMTS enabled
I'll be using that to provide internet connectivity to my Tablet PC. Currently I use GPRS, which is too slow.
In some articles on the web I read that the A1000 is UMTS-compatible. Looking good! |

How confusing is that
WCDMA = UMTS ?
Is it really _exactly_ the same, or perhaps UMTS runs on a different frequency than WCDMA ? Always thought CDMA was primarily used in the USA and Japan.
Anyway, thanks for the help. The Motorola A1000 indeed seems like what I want. Anything exciting with touch-screen coming from SonyEricsson soon?

@gaston : Glad to be some help. Actually it would be more correct to say UMTS=WCDMA rather then vice versa.
Sadly, I very much doubt that will announce any touchscreen based smartphone anytime in the neat future, may be during q2, cant say.

3rd Generation mobile phone data connectivity.
1st generation was: GSM (slow)
2nd generation was: GPRS (still slow)
3rd generation is: UMTS / WCDMA (reasonable)
In the UK Vodafone says "Vodafone 3G" to their UMTS / WCDMA network.
In Holland they don't use the 3G name, but just Vodafone UMTS.

We just have to wait until March and the CEBIT to see what new phones will be announced.
