They go for about £430 in the UK, so that's not a bad price.

430?!?!?!
They must be really messing around with prices!!
On my trip to Japan, I saw them as low as 150.

Are you sure you're talking about the iPod photo which is what is on sale here? There are many other iPod models, but I doubt even Steve Jobs can buy a 60GB iPod photo for the price you claim to have seen them selling for.
The cheapest iPod mini is £179 or $249
The cheapest iPod is £219 or $299

i'm 100% sure of what I'm talking about.
I own a 3g and 4g iPod.
For a clearer picture.
I bought my 3G iPod when it was first released for 180 pounds.
In the middle east. We dont have any taxes and enjoy cheaper items because of the amount of importing and competition.

@ batesie
I said 3G (G not GB) and 4 G
Those are what iPod's designs are called.
The 3G was with the four buttons in the middle.
The 4G is the latest.
Not GB....

*sighs*
I REVIEW technology as a major hobby!
I'm not wrong, I'm 100%!
Ok, lets make it simple, believe me or not, it's up to you.
When you decide to be open minded, GO TO AKIHABARA IN TOKYO AND YOU WILL SEE WITH YOUR OWN EYES!
I'm not trying to ruin this thread! (you could have PMed me if you doubted me)
In the UK, YES THIS IS A GOOD PRICE, in Japan NO!
Edit: and those are in stores as well.
Lets look at http://www.apple.co.jp
The average 4G (that's fourth generation not 4gb memory) is 155 pounds.
Lets look at the Limited Edition U2, it's 200 pounds
Now lets look at the PHOTO IPOD! it's 270 POUNDS!
NOW DO YOU FREAKIN' BELEIVE ME?!
Go to the site and do conversions yourself if you dont.
Oh and the highest memory photo ipod is 330 pounds.
Point is it's direct from apple. Akihabara have them MUCH cheaper as well.
Please do some research before using the word IMPOSSIBLE please.

I think the reason people were doubting you is because in your second post in this thread you said:

...to which people naturally assumed you were talking about the 60GB iPod photo being sold here.
In fact, it was just the regular 20gb iPod that you saw for £150, not the 60GB iPod photo for sale in this thread. And now you say you saw the 40GB iPod photo selling for £270.
Current prices from the Japanese Apple Store at today's exchange rates:
40gb iPod photo : £295
60gb iPod photo : £360
4gb iPod mini : £145
20gb iPod : £171
40gb iPod : £230
It's not clear whether any of these prices are subject to local sales tax.
People were right to doubt your claims, as you were not comparing prices for the same iPod model, which wasn't clear in your first few replies.
However, as is now clear, there are definately savings to be made if you can buy in Japan.
