I've converted my mp3 songs to mp4 via Neuro StartSmart.I cant make up my mind if theres a significant difference 32 kbit/s and 64 kbit/s.Is there a big difference in quality between them?

Hehe you're in the same boat as me however i felt mp4s were not as good soundin as mp3s tho everybody says there should be no difference. I converted a 48kbps 44khz mp3 to 48kbps 44khz mp4 and it sounded bad...also when i played them both in winamp the equaliser bars for the mp4 didnt move as much as in mp3(around 4 t0 5 bars towards the right didnt move at all) As for your question if you dont see any difference then go for 32 since its you who has to listen to them n that'll save you space. |

Thanks for your replies.With the same song I've converted,i got about 1700 kb on 48 kb/s mp4 and 1100kb 34 kb/s mp4. There wasnt much difference but i will prefer 34 kb/s

I use 128kbps mp4 for mines...sounds the same as 192kbps mp3 and saves 1/3 space. |

converting a low quality mp3 to mp4 is a bad idea IMHO. The best way to compare them is to use the same original hi-quality source. for example 192Kbps stereo mp3 converted to 56Kbps mono mp3 and the same 192Kbps stereo mp3 converted to 56Kbps mono mp4. comparing the two outputs would be fair that way.
I think the quality of low bitrate mp4s depends on the type of song you are converting. I notice that if you convert a song containing a wide range of frequencies -- deep bases to hi-pitched strings and cymbals, some wierd sounds start to become apparent on bitrates lower than 56Kbps so I generally use 56Kbps.
It also depends on the listener -- some people doesn't notice much some tiny distortions so lower bitrates would be acceptable to them, while others are too quick to notice even the slightest distortions so they should use higher bitrates.
Each of us has to find the best compromise between quality and size that best fits to our individual listening pleasures.
resistance is futile. |

I agree with blackspot, what clank did was wrong for comparison purpose. |

@701
Use DBPowerAmp to convert mp3 to wave first, then use Windows Sound Recorder programs to raise up the volume, than convert it again to mp3 use DBPowerAmp
Hi All wanna know what have i done with my MP3 ?? i first convert it to ogg 64kbps 44khz, then i converting it again to mp3 80kbps 32khz, the sound has good quality and the size just about a half from the original mp3's size. I use DBPowerAmp with this setting :
- Uncheck Disable bit reservoir
- use Variable bitrate
- Sound quality to low (cant notice different with high quality) |

that is very nice, but converting good quality mp3īs to mp4 (aac) is simply better than messing with mp3 bitrates...
