does anyone know of any resources where i can find out if what i heard is true. namely that there is a metal used in most mobiles that is only found in one place in africa. the country where it is mined is a dictatorship kept in power by money from western countries in order to preserve a cheap supply of that metal. also in mining for the metal many people die from the harsh conditions they work in.
i don't even know which country it is found in and cos i'm quite into mobiles but also considering myself to be an enviromentalist i would like to know if this is true or just more background if poss.
thanks in advance

I met someone from D R of Congo and he mentioned the same about this rare metal used in mobiles, however he didn't say anything about inhumane practices, he did stress the rarity and importance of this metal in the mobile phone sector.
