I normally give my new phones a 24 hour charge before using it, that way i can evaluate the batttery life on the phone properly.

No, it should not affect it. Any item that uses a rechargeable power souce should be sufficently charged (as a rule of thumb) so that when its critical, your device does not die on you!

If you see in the manual book, you will not find any charging instruction. It will only tell you that the battery would reach its maximum performance after 2-3 charging cycle. I once ask a guy in nokia service centre and being told to charge it for 8 hours first time. Then I said to him, I never do that to all my phones(+- 15), as long as it comes with a lithium battery and I never have any problem. He could not say anything when I said:If you have to do that and the phone manufacturer does not put the instruction in the manual book, wouldn't the company be getting a lot of warranty claims? So until it is full(2-3 hours), that is enough in my opinion.
