Japanese mobile phone market discussion |

I thought it might be a rather good idea to have a thread discussing the Japanese mobile phone market since it is arguably the most technologically advanced nation in terms of mobile phones.
amnesia commented that the Japanese are not awfully fond of Sony, but that Sony Ericsson was a 'different story". I would like to know what the Japanese think of SE and what they think about mobile phones in general.
There doesn't seem to be many Japanese members of Esato, but any who are here are most welcome to post in this thread and let the rest of us know what is happening in Japan.

Hi. Im not japanese, but situation is... Vodafon is in ass. The main two opers are NTT DoCoMo and KDDI. They brand ALL phones and mainly branding is what you look at- not the manufacturer. Phones are all like the same about feature except 2-3 specific for each model. You could go to www.i-mode.com and look at foma enabled phones. They kill! And se makes most phones for kddi, which i dont like. The most popular phones i belive nec, sharp and panasonic. Hope i answered your qus

I have heard that the Japanese, when choosing a new mobile, place a great deal of importance on network branding.
I have seen the FOMA handsets available from DoCoMo and I was rather impressed. Am I correct in thinking that Bluetooth is not as popular in Japan as it is in Europe?
What do the Japanese think of European mobiles? Are they viewed as being completely primitive?

Yes, bluetooth is very unpopular, but all latest phones have remote control infrared port. There are just 2 or 3 bluetooth phones. I dont know what they think about european phones, since they are not interested in them. But the phones there are extremely cheap. Almost all are free on contract. The payg phones can only call and for sale everywhere. You can buy double s700 phone for 250-300 bucks
