Can I use a custom avatar? |

I know that I just joined the forum and I'm aware that my avatar will not show up until >10 posts. But my phone model doesn't appear to be available in the list in my "Edit Your Preferences" section. Is it possible, or even allowable to upload an image of my phone (O2 Xphone II) for use as an avatar? |

Hi, welcome o Esato. The best thing to do is send a private message to laffen (site administrator) and ask him to arrange an avatar for you

I'm a bit lost here. I think that I may have joined the wrong forum - if I gather correctly from your "spirit" comment, then members are only allowed to have avatars that match one of those listed in the prefs; leading one to believe that this is a community only for people who use one of those models. Am I correct? Gee, I hope not... I'm already seriously in the minority here.
Honestly, it's not that big of an issue at all. I was just curious.

Esato read backwards 'Only Take(or Trust as some members take it) A Sony Ericsson'.This site was developed keeping Sony Ericsson phones as the main focus thats why the avatars are fixed and cannot be changed.
But that does not mean others are unwelcome here. If you will notice there are a huge number of nokia,sagem,samsung....... threads and members have actively participated in them (although some opinions may be biased  )

Welcome! 
The story behind the avatars selected by Laffen is simple: Choose the phone you have as your avatar, if your phone is not amongst the ones avalable in the list you choose the one you fancy or choose to have no avatar. If you don't own a  then you need to use one of the two above since the will not (to my knowldge) be a non avatar avalable.

Laffen should make an avatar (or an avatar for each mobile brand) for non-se users :)

yes i think this would be a nice feature.

OK, I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't invading territory that is reserved for a specific set of users. It's just odd to me that every board I belong to has custom avatars as a standard feature. But I understand that there is a bandwidth issue here.
Well, if the option is ever allowed, that would be great.

The matter is very simple indeed once one has gotten past the jingoism. You are more than welcome here irrespective of the brand of mobile phone you have.
Esato is primarily a Sony Ercisson forum, however, other brands are discussed on a regular basis and there are many members here who do not use a Sony Ericsson handset.
As far as avatars are concerned, tranquil's earlier comments are spot on. Since Esato is primarily a SE forum there are, and should always be, only SE avatars available.
There are many more topics of conversation on Esato than mobile phones, so you should be able to find something that interests you.
