The Wall Street Journal has a piece in today's issue about images taken with camera phones only rarely making it off the phone:
Keeping images trapped on phones hurts the printer makers, which generate much of their profit from selling ink as well as special photo paper. So the printer makers are trying to persuade consumers to print out images from phones, and not just share them via e-mail.
Last year we reported on CVS updating its photo kiosks for camera phones, but nothing was announced about how successful the program has been. Problems facing mobile phone printing are numerous:
* Many phones do not have Bluetooth or IR
* Consumers are not even thinking of printing their camera phone shots
* Most images are such low resolution that the prints are low quality
But with camera phones selling with increased volume, printer makers have no choice but to chase the market. Camera phones outsold digital cameras 2-1 in 2004, with the gapy predicted to double over the next 2 years.

Well with better quality cam phones, printing them would be the next logical step. Pictures taken with a 2mp cam phone can be printed. The pictures taken with a Vga cam phone when printed will make it look very bad.

Photography isn't exactly about pixels - it's an art combining good visual ideas, seasoned judgment as when to click, and an array of logistical experience such as placing just enough light sources to illuminate the subject to help achieving the intended overall imagery. At the photo shop where I work, some N3650's produce much better prints than 7610's.

Now that more and more Camera Phones accept memory sticks, of different types, printing pics is a lot easier.
I bought the S700i deliberately for my holiday in Thailand this year. Having 2 mem sticks made it a cool thing to own. 1 mem stick in to the printers, the other in the phone. Pics are plenty good enough quality for me.
