QUESTION: Does EDGE have the same charges with GPRS? By how much is it faster? GLOBE also offers this service right? |

according to what me and my friend from Globe have discussed, EDGE will simply ride GPRS, hence, the same charges apply.
EDGE, according to him, is active in Laguna and Makati area. |

Hello. IF Globe is already offering EDGE, how come they don't advertise it? Considering it offers faster data speeds than GPRS? And even if they offer it, we need to have and EDGE-capable phone in order to use the technology. |

deployment of EDGE may not be complete yet... they may still be testing it. GPRS was operational for over 1 year before Globe started advertising that they had it. Right guys? We all had so much fun back then... hehehehe.. free ISP 24/7 for over 1 year. 42K speeds!
EDGE is still under a lot of testing right now... stability, frequency allotment... base station upgrading... software tweaking... etc.
For those that know the settings... they become the unofficial beta test group. Globe then checks their network traffic, etc...etc.
If EDGE is active in Makati right now, that means it'll be about 4 months for it to be operational nation-wide... then maybe another 6 months for further tests, then they start advertising it.
Besides, it would be foolish to offer EDGE without having a full stock of EDGE capable handsets ready for sale right? And right now, there aren't that many EDGE handsets... so people might think that their GPRS phones can handle EDGE... and if they're told that they need to buy a new handset...but handsets aren't available... then it would be useless to tell the public right?

Edge is the highest data rate a GSM network can handle. In some places is called "wireless IDSN" the speed is also just about the same as full IDSN (128 Kb/sec) it is introduce as we speak by just about all the networks which fail to get a licence for the 3G network. And even some 3G licenced networks are introducing it to keep customers.(they do already have the 2.5G infrastructure in place) it is 3-4 x faster then the good old GPRS ! SonyEricsson, unfortunately, doesn't really support it ! ! ! Look at the market leader if you want a edge cell ! (tip 6630)
