Apple Airtunes help |

Hey
I have a d-link router, and have had 2 macs running wirless intenet for months without a hitch. However, i have just purchased airtunes to steram music into another room, and to cut a very long story short, my router is interfering with my airtunes.
The airtunes adapter can also work as a router, if i plug a modem into it, but the problem is, all the modems i can see (ADSL modems) have to be plugged into a mac/pc via USB in order to work.
This is a problem as my router and phone line (which i currently use to share the net) is on a different floor than our macs, so there is no way i can plug a modem into a mac, and connect it to a phone line (unless i get a line installed into out study)
So, i need a modem, which i can plug into my airtunes, which does not need to be plugged into a mac/pc for it to work (and then the macs can wirlessly find the modem as it is connected to airtunes).....am i making sense?!?!
Any help would be great
Thanks

No you are not making any sense but I think I understand what you mean.
Do you have an Airport Extreme? If so, you can set it to work in WDS mode(Wireless Distribution System)mode. This way, you entire network sort of acts as a repeater, except to the first station of course with is the primary station with the others working as secondary stations. |

lol i tried my best!!
I need the modem to plug into the airtunes......but my airtuens is to far away from my pc.....so the modem needs to plug into the airtunes.....right?! but the modem cannot plug into my airtunes and mac at the same time!!
So can i get a modem which goes from my phone line, into my airtunes...and for the modem not to have to connect to my mac, but for the macs to wirelessly connect via airtunes?!

Ignore Fatreg. As you can see from his very informative post, which is also indicative of PC users, he has no clue about your topic. I asked it you have an Aiprort extreme and you did not answer back so to help you further is a bit hard. Having Airtunes is only a "software" solution. To make the system complete, you need an Aiport Express. I have one and it connects to my stereo on one port, to my DSL router on the other port and to my printer on the other port. I think, from your questions, that I have the system that you are seeking. If you desire, try to contact me via MSN, Yahoo, AIM, or iCQ and we can chat in real-time. This is quite an easy solution that no WIndoze manufacture came up with.

No what u do, is instead of using ure current adsl Modem Which Im assuming is the green alcatel one touch, get an ethernet adsl modem which only is connected to a ethernet cable and a power supply.
So that way u dont have to connect it via usb, this will also help u connect it to AIRTUNES.
Oh
and connect that ethernet modem to a router, or airtunes or whatever sot hat u can tap into the modem wirelessly.
What I use is an alcatel speedtouch with a netgear wireless router.

Thanks sapporobaby, when i am back home i will chat with you
As for the person that said get a PC - this situation is regardless of having a PC or a Mac. Without getting into another mac V PC debate, i was a PC user for 10 years, and moving to apple was the best move i have ever made.
sapporobaby - i do have aipport express (the adapter that plugs into my stero) Its odd, it has been working in conjunction with my router, but my router is causing my music to blip, so this is why i need to get rid of it and get a modem. When im home from work we will have a chat. Many Thanks for your help on this

@Yaz,
Good call dude. I have a similar set up. The key here is the Ethernet port on the DSL modem. My modem has 4 extra ports, one of which I use for my XBOX and the other for the Airport Express. From here I am set to use the Airport with my home stereo, and stream music. Once again, good call. I forgot about this. The USB setup is not very good.
Cheers

Thanks for your advice - your right, i basically need a modem to plug into airport express that DOES NOT need to be plugged into my mac - therefore using the airport express as a router - i have looked on ebay, would these be suitable for my needs? Problem is, most of them are routers as well as modems, all i want it a bog standard modem, as i cant see the point in having 2 routers....

The third one looks promising since it doesnt have an internal router, but make sure its driver is compatible with mac, or u can atleast download the suitable driver from the net.
IMHO
Ure best chances at getting the best connection with minimum fuss is to get this one,

Oops just realized only available to france.
Its a good modem, had one like it, but moved it to the office, its compatible.

Many Thanks
Do you agree its best to get one without a router, or will it not really matter?

Hey
Before i buy, do you agree this is the one for me?
If i buy this, i simiply plug airport express into it, and plug into mains. Both Macs will share the net wirlessly, and speakers can plug into airtunes?
This modem DOES NOT have to be plugged into a mac/pc to work....right?!?!
Many thanks |
