While I was searching around the forums looking for ways to get free ringtones, I came upon this link http://www.polyphonicringtonez.com that people were refering to. Now I was browsing through the site and checking it out and now I got some questions I like to comfirm.

1. Is this site really free?
2. It seems that I need to setup a WAP Configuration before I can access the goods. Is there any hidden charges for this?
3. The only thing I'm going to be paying for is the data charges? So if I want to download a ringtone that is 5.88Kb and my service provider charges me 3¢/KB of data usage. Therefore it'll have to pay 18¢ and a additional few cents for loading the pages?

I live in Canada, Ontario using a Sony Ericsson T610 and my service provider is Fido. I thought this information might be useful about me.

1. They claim to be, but they ask you to click on their advertising in order to get funds for their site.
2. When the ringtones are accessible through WAP only, it means the site gets access to your phone number, and it is possible for them to charge you for a download. If they have any moral standards at all, you will be asked to confirm that you want to pay.
3. That is correct, assuming they don't lie to you about the ringtones being free.
4. Remember that when you download a ringtone via WAP, you will become a customer of this company. In most countries this means they have a legal right to spam you through SMS and WAP Push.
5. Assuming this is a company with high moral standards, you can disregard most of what I have said, and their reason for allowing access through WAP only is that they pay royalties for each ringtone they deliver. By using WAP they can keep account of everything and not run into any problems versus musical artists and record companies.
