Disgraceful. SE K700i no longer a 'top of the range' phone in CPW but the 6230 is? |

I am DISGRACED!!!!
Browsing leisurely through the carphone warehouse catalouge, and yet again i see that blasted Nokia 6230 first!!! (in the top of the range section) with the 1.3 megapixel V800 which suceeds the the 6230 by a mile is 6th!
And then, to my horror, the K700i has been moved to mid range section.
Typical of this blasted modern world to just look at the word nokia and automatically think every phone it produces is top. I know the 6230 has expandable memory, but the K700i has a better camera (as proved by the NUMEROUS threads on Esato comparing it) and a nicer screen.
Furthermore, the S700i, V800, Motorola V3 RAZR, all these brilliant phones come after the rubbishy nokias!?!?!?!!?
Help me someone, before i go and rain down bullets on the carphone warehouse office in london

The CPW are trying to sell phones and make a profit. All their reviews need to be taken with a pinch of salt.

I couldn't care less what CPW think of the K700, it's still my favourite compact phone!

The CPW actually give SE quite a prominent position when one considers that they are far from being the the biggest manufacturer. SE products are reguarly given prominence over those from Samsung and Motorola, both of which are bigger companies and have greater market share than SE.

Yeah, but i always thought of them being quite impressive, and very good with all the latest technology and very very good at praising sony ericsson phones until now!

i think that cpw want people to think that the 6230 is the best fone and its also a phone which you could probably go out and buy right there and then.
and as for the s700i, they also want you to think its a good fone, but they know they won't get as many sales with it as it has a 499.99 price tag

Dony forget, there are a lot of peoplewho just arent savvy about phones, they dont care what they get, and cpw probaby make the biggest % on nokias, thats why, not because its any good.

Come on be real, do you think they could be so bias and have SE phones at number 1 all the time? Its impossible and will never happen as long as they are independantly owned they have to be fair to the market share. Plus the factor that they have to rotate things around that either dont seem to selling so well and put something else in place that will do equally well. |

They will want to maximise thier sales of course and to do this they will promote those handsets, which they think stand the best chance of selling well. I agree with meths on this one, this is a market driven excercise.

yes...... although it is quite hard to imagine why their not returning your calls might be upsetting you, I have to say their listing a nokia top of the list is enough grounds for personal aggrevation. GEESH!

Please don't aim at the top floor - I may well be caught in the crossfire!
@all
Basically, many of you are partially right. Unfortunately, when positioning items in the Buyers' Guide, market forces and the views of the whole handset-purchasing population are the key factors. It is a sad and simple fact that Nokia sell more handsets than anyone and, although I don't have the sales figures, I would hazard an educated guess that the 6230 outsells the K700i by a significant amount.
It also depends on which manufacturers are contributing what to the CPW marketing budget.
However, one thing I can tell you is that there is no internal bias, Nokia are NOT a shareholder, and there is definitely not more margin on Nokia handsets (handsets are not really a serious source of revenue for CPW anyway, it's driven by contract commissions from the networks).
@jontyf
I may regret this, but PM me with your problem and I'll see if I can help, or at least point you in the right direction.
