I belive that there is one commercially-available SyncML server.

Synchronization on Connection menu helps you synch your phonebook, task and calendar entries in T68 with other PIM softwares in your PC like MS outlook, Lotus notes, etc. using IR or bluetooth; while the wap option allows you to synch with PIM services offered via wap like yahoo calendar, yahoo address, etc.
If you get the error during transmission of push.txt (during first use), you have not configured your PC and assigned the receiving file destination. You can open wireless link and set this option. It works flawlessly with winMe and win2k but not as reliable in winXp. Of course you have to install the synch software from Ericsson.
Using wap, you will need a yahoo account (yahoo email account comes with everything like my yahoo, briefcase, calendar, etc.). To configure T68, input your yahoo user ID and password, for url server use http://___.wap.yahoo.com (ca.wap.yahoo.com is the Canadian yahoo server, you can use other server like ye.wap.yahoo.com for asia yahoo). And for the path, I am still trying to figure out what to input here. The last one I used are Y! Calendar and Y! Address.
Synching with IR worked all the time for me but for wap synching, I was not able to synched successfully. Most of the times it turned out message like synchronization interrupted or Failed. But the phone go thru the normal procedure: connecting, verifying, server connected, synchronizing, then the error message. Some of the reasons for this I found out later is the US yahoo wap site I use is often out of order and the cell signal in my vicinity is not strong enough. And probably the path (final part of synching) is also wrong. If anyone of you wish to try it, I suggest he visits http://wap.yahoo.com and from there select the country destination. If you want to know the url of the server country you select, just click option menu of T68 after entering the server and click Send as link then abort sending. After exiting wap, go to your SMS option and you can find the url in the unsent box. You can also use this technique to check the path for the calendar and address.
I don't have my T68 right now (sent it abroad for upgrade) and the cost of wap surfing here is too prohibitive so I can not continue working on wap synching. If anyone try it, please post your experience here.
Note: I have tried "calendar" & "address" and "calendar.yahoo.com" and "address.yahoo.com" as path but they did not work also.

It does not work with Yahoo simply because Yahoo does not support Sync ML which is what this synchronization is all about. I have not seen any major portal supporting Sync ML yet. |

I contacted Yahoo! and suggested that they support SyncML. They said "We don't support SyncML at this time but are always looking to add new features to Yahoo!..." or something like that. I believe that I saw Yahoo! on a list of corporations that have backed the SyncML standard, so I wouldn't be surprised if we see something soon. But, I bet they will charge for it. Yahoo! seems to be giving fewer services away for free these days. |
