Ok so I've got a car kit with the new universal cradle. I shudder to mount the evil speaker on my beloved car. Does anyone have experience with the advanced music mute cable? How does it connect to your stereo? I've got a Sony head unit going to stock speakers in my honda del sol (CRX in the rest of world). Thanks for any opinions.

Hey,
I have pretty much the same setup. T68i and a Sony system. The car kit I had (not any more) had a cable that was marked as "Stereo Mute" or something like that and the Sony has a cable that is marked "Mute" - I'm assuming it's not that simple in your environment but that's how it usually is - you just connect the two mutes and it works - did for me and I installed the car kit, Sony head, changer and amplifier all by myself in my car (VW GTI).

and the audio goes through the mute cable to the stereo speakers? Thats the main reason I wanted to use the advanced music mute cable so I could use my car stereo speakers as the phone speaker.

No - my car kit came with its own speaker. It was an original Ericsson kit so the sound was pretty decent - didn't really have a need to use the stereo speakers. Also, by using a dedicated speaker for the phone, you get to still hear the music in the background while on the phone as mute significantly lowers the volume of the music but does not entirely mute it - I personally prefer to have them running on separate speakers: a set for the stereo and one for the phone.

ahhh, yea I knew that much, I just didn't want to mount that awful speaker into my interior. using the stereo speakers was a cleaner solution for me.

I have the music mute installed along with the car kit. I think you need both. In any case the music mute has to be spliced into your speaker wiring. It works great. The only weird feature is that the phone sounds only come out of the front speakers. Probably an intended feature.
