Will firmware update fix this? |
K700i User Joined: Dec 11, 2004 Posts: 7 PM |
I was bored one day and i decided to back up my info on my phone. I copied all the pictures on to my hdd and did a master reset. I copied the pictures back on the phone and STUPIDLY tried to overwrite the "Sony Ericsson" animation, but it was copied protected. Instead of overwriting it renamed the original file to "Sony Ericsson_(1). Will the firmware update restore the original filename? If not is there a way to rename protected files using any computer software? Thanks. |

Are you sure it's not the new file you transfered that has that "new" name? It should not be the pre-installed name that gets renamed, the new file with the same name should be renamed. I just tested it. Copied a file to my K700i with the name Sony Ericsson and that new file was renamed, not the original.
Since you already did a master reset (and lost games etc.) you might as well do another reset. Then the name should appear correctly.
Are you really sure about this? It sounds very strange... double check it! |

Welcome here! At a master reset could happen strange things sometimes, thats true, but as i see the copy could be deleted without any problem

I'm absolutely sure. I'm looking at it right now and I can't delete or rename it. I transfered it via bluetooh and currently running firmware RZAA003 if that helps any. If someone can help I would greatly appreciate it. It's actually pretty darn annoying. Thanks.

You could have a corrupted firmware, but on the other hand, some one here posted a note saying that corrupted firmware is only a "hoax" accourding to Sony Ericsson. |

Corrupt firmware? I don't think it's that or at least I hope it's not. Definately not a hoax in my case. I just want this stupid file name fixed. Don't want to delete, just want it fixed. STUPID PROTECTED FILES!!! |

I don't think a firmware update will fix it since only changed files are being replaced during the update procedure. That animition is most likely the same in newer firmwares. I'd say you will have to get the phone reflashed if you want it fixed (unless master reset fixes it). I'm pretty confident on this one, sorry!
Reflashed is not the same as updated. It can only be done at a service center (some, not all though). I'd say that something has gone wrong with your firmware... |

As CyberVisitor has said and according to my identical experience, non of the below would delete the Sony Ericsson.gif or the one with an extended filename such as Sony Ericsson_(1)_(1)_(2).gif:
1. Deleting the file by pressing C button.
2. Deleting the file by any file manager run on PC.
3. Running an update using SEUS.
4. Running an recovery using SEUS.
5. Master Reset -> Reset All.
6. The 13 sec. trick.
7. Transferring a file with the same name to the phone and deleting it.
8. Master Rest -> Reset All -> Immediately followed by filling up ALL the phone memory by some self-created txt files -> Deleting the gif file.
Reflashing your phone at an SE service center seems to be the best way to solve this problem. Some have reported they've fixed this issue using TotalServer or DaVinci, but this is NOT recommended as it might exacerbate the problem and void your warranty.

Thanks for the help guys. Guess I'll have to try and find a service center that'll do it for me. |

Super Tennis was apparently built into my firmware. So when I did a master reset it stayed on the phone. |
