Today is Wall Street Journal there is an article about an proposed merger between Sprint and Nextel.

It could create the third largest cell-phone provider in the US after Cingular and Verizon.

To me this sounds like a good move for the both companies. However, I don't think it will have a major effect on other providers since Nextel isn't that big of a player. They are however, very profitable.

What do you guys think about this?

Yes, Sprint uses CDMA. It says that Nextel push-to-talk is very successful and the main reason they're so profitable. They would keep Sprint's CDMA network but also incorporate Nextel's push-to-talk technology.
