HAH! I always knew this, and thankfully now I have the research to back it up! SMS 'shorthand' annoys people!!!
Quote:
| Text shorthand is not popular, the survey found, and is only used by 13 per cent of all mobile users, but 23 per cent of 18-29 year olds admit to using it. 54 per cent of respondents said that messages in shorthand were "difficult to understand", with 41 per cent seeing text messages as "sloppily written". Seventy Seven per cent would oppose the inclusion of common text abbreviations in the Oxford English Dictionary. |

So stop using it! Now! The world will be a better place

Thats what I love about the P910i, you can text entire full length non abbreviated messages in a short time. |

But it can be a right royal pain in the arse to read. Perhaps we should use text shorthand to send secret messages - except no bugger can understand it!

grrrr
I wonder when they're going to ban vowels? Can you imagine Countdown or other word-based gameshows with everything 'text' style!

If all abbreviations were just the vowels removed... but ther's loads more... completely unintelligible.

And then there's people who misspell words without abbreviating them to add to the general confusion.

What if you've got a lot to say, and no credit for 2 messages? Im not a fan of sms abbreviations, i always try to use the full word, but sometimes its necessary.

Sometimes necessary and useful. But if people havenīt learned the normal use of language yet (spelling) and they continue to use this even when not necessary - well, itīs going to be a pretty mess - and annoying.
