just curious, why do people post a reply saying they have sent a PM? |

I'm asking this because in order for the person to see the reply they would have to refresh the page and in doing so they will see the PM notification in bright red at the top
I do know if a different language has been chosen it might not show in red (not sure if thats fixed yet) but mostly these are on market threads where people are expecting members to PM them
I'm just curious about this behaviour? is a better PM notification system needed? if so maybe this is a suggestion for the Esato's forum Bug&Feature forge.

Dunno, just to show interest, i suppose, or to show others that i've been looking at it. Good question!

If it is, i do it for a kind of alert, cos i do noticed that sometimes members didnt check pm. Might be they have too much and others - sometimes newcomers - dont know yeta thd pm feature

I´ve been using german language in the forum recently and the PM notification was as grey as everything else - not thaht this was a problem for me..
This 'PM for you' behaviour is as strange as sms or calls like 'sent you an email' - though it makes a little bit more sense there because not everybody is using pushmail services yet..
In bidding proceedings it perhaps has the effect of raising offer because everbody knows there are other bidders - but else?

Its just something you say, i guess. A thread with no replies looks like no one is reading it, i guess its just to show people are reading it. But it is pointless.

i do this allll the time
My reason is i'm on esato at home and at college. when at college i dont log in (incase i forget to log off) unless i want to post, usually i just browse the forum. if in one of my threads someone has written "PM Sent" i can then log in and check my PM's. Rather than having to login, check PM on the off-chance that i may have one, log out.
hope that made sense

I can confirm that since tonight my Dutch PM warnings have appeared in bright red as well. So thank you for mentioning it, I'm quite pleased. It is a lot more obvious this way. And thank you laffen for acting on it.
I do use thye 'PM sent' system for ppl checking esato on the go (I myself never log in until I actually post a reply), ppl not being able to stay logged in (html lite users) and also to show that whatever the question/issue at hand, it has been answered/dealt with.
How much fun would 20 PM's containing the same info be? When you're on wap and paying for every single one of them?
It's just one of those things...

I don't do it, but the two reasons I can think of are
1) The other person may not have logged in
2) In FS threads: Back off! It's mine! |
