Pairing a bt headset with a PC - any success stories? |

Hey, all! I am new to the forum, and this is my first post.
My question is has anyone been able to succeed in using a BT headset as a PC headset, to operate it as sound input/output device?
My experience is a mixed bag...
I tried to use SE HBH-300 via MSI BT Dongle 6967 with Widcomm drivers under WinXP SP2. After a couple of hours of trial and error (mostly, to force WinXP use Widcomm Drivers), I managed to pair HBH with the PC. The headset appeared in the list of Sound and Audio devices as "Bluetooth Audio Device". I even managed to use it as sound output device - it worked fine, except for obvious reduction of sound quality ( heh, you don't want to listen to your favourite MP3s this way  ).
However, where I failed completely was to use it as a sound input device (the mic, simply speaking). If I selected it as a sound input device, there was a constant terrible background noise in the input signal, and when I tried to say something, this "something" was barely audible through this noise, and in addition, there was a huge delay (about 1sec) and echo.
Does anyone have any success stories of using a BT headset on a PC with acceptable mic quality? Apparently, the problem is in the way the stream is processed in the PC, because no one has ever complained about the sound quality over the phone. |

Don't know about Windows based PCs, but it works fine on an Apple Mac running Mac OS X, allowing me to chat to people using Skype or iChat (Apple's AOL compatible messenger).
I can even get sound output from the Mac sent direct to the BT headset, if I should want to listen to iTunes through it!
All I did was pair the Mac and Headset, everything else worked with no configuration.

Same as Hummer with a Jabra BT250 and D-Link dongle: acceptable sound output (PC -> HS), horrible noise at input.
Might be a widcomm driver problem.

I've used my HBH-600 + W2K as a headset for Skype, the VOIP service. Just paired it, opened a headset connection and I was in business. Don't have XP SP2, so can't help on that. I've played MP3s through my headset on SP1 though, just for kicks. |

On my XP I have no trouble pairing the HBH-300, but I do have pretty bad sound quality and an echo on the mic as described in the first post.
The (no-name) dongle uses Widcomm drivers. |

Have to say this. MAC RULES!!!!!!!
Now, back to the question. It seems that Windows has a problem with BT sometimes. Just for fun, check your firewall to make sure that it is allowing incoming connections on the BT ports. Same for outgoing connections.
Did I mention that MAC Rules????????

I have paired all my bluetooth headsets with my pc they all work fine,but the sound quality is poor. HBH-600/HBH-660/HBH-30/HBH-35/HBH-200. I am using widcomm stack with a d-link bluetooth adaptor dbt-120. |

One of the many reasons I'm going to switch. But until then, I've to bear with that *&#% XP pc.

@Hummer--I was using (still am...) the Widcomm v. 1.4.2 drivers d/led from the Belkin site with a Belkin 803v.2 dongle. Got no echoes and called parties reported reasonable sound quality over Skype. |

Yes, but that's on a W2K machine, right? Nice to know, but the story might be quite different on XP... Just in case - any specific sound/audio settings?

Not true Grimslade. There is nothing a PC user can do that I can not do with my Mac. I have Office for Mac and it is much, much better than the Windows version. Mac has the Aqua interface and it is simply beautiful to use and oh so fast. My friend with a 2.5 ghz machine is surprised at how fast my 1.5 ghz Mac is. How it can run rings around him. By the way, I use my Mac at work all the time. My co-workers are jealous. No viruses, worms, or Blue Screens of Death. |

Well... You know what? It just started working!!! I did not change anything, I just tried another time - and voila!
I think I know one trick: it becomes crazy when you try to use it full-duplex, as in the Hardware Test Program. When I speak for Windows' Sound Recorder, I can't hear a think while I am speaking, but when I play the file, i can hear my voice clear and loud enough. Now, I am willing to try it on Skype. If somebody would be willing to help me test it, I'd be grateful. My Skype name is hummer_3dnews. Can we give it a shot, Skype users? |
