I am sick and tired of waiting for a new firmware for the k700/k500i. When will this be out? It is more than due. Any one knows what the latest status is? R2aa was withdrawn, then what happened?

I don't think there has ever been a firmware version that we knew WHEN it was going to be available generally. Its always a suprise when it happens.

do you have something significantly wrong with your phone that is causing you to be this impatient?

The delay might mean that SE is actually performing a high degree of regression testing. This should help prevent the high level of incompatibilities noticed during the previous batch of firmware upgrades.

With a product as complex as the K700 (and all the other new generation phones), the phone software has become incredibly complex and needs a fare share of time to be tested and made stable enough.

I've noticed that consumers from India seem to be facing a high level of problems with their K700i and K500i phones! Could it be than SE has shipped hardware that is older (and therefore contains more bugs within the hardware) to India? This is just a general observation, and I don't intend starting a war of words on this!

Cheers

Or the "delay" could mean that Sony Ericsson doesn't think a new software really is that important. There are no significant problems with the current software, only small glitches. Most people [here] always "wants" a new software... I've had my K700i for 6 months now and since R2L001 was installed, there really isn't many problems with it - really!

Some people might say "But hey, what about the battery performance - we need a new software for that!". Well, what if that can't be fixed with a "new" software? I think that those who are waiting for a brand new "state of the art" software for the K700i is waiting for nothing - sorry! Small updates will be released though.

@anand.balaji

Just out of curiosity, how on earth did you come to the conclusion that consumers from India seem to be having the highest levels of problems with their K700i and K500i phones?

[Update] You have changed/modified your statement after my post!

I have to agree. I don't think we'll get much better than R2L apart from, as you say, a few small things.

I guess it is a shame that R2L wasn't the first firmware that the K700 was released with but lets be happy we have this stability now

Oops, I meant to say, "a high number of problems" rather than "the highest".

I can say that there are a number of customers facing problems with their K700 and K500 phones due to the fact that...

1) Most of the mobile shop retailers who I talked too had told me that they had received numerous complains about the phone rebooting and freezing in power saving mode.

2)My friend circle consists of mainly SE fans. 4 out of 10 K700s suffer from random reboots. That's a pretty high percentage!

3)I know of two individuals whose K500's always crash when surfing the Internet.

As I mentioned within my previous posting, these are just my personal observations. I love my K700 and I'm looking forward to the day I'll be able to use it without a crash every day!

Cheers!

i have had a quite a few problems and mainly due to random reboots. i hope that gets rectified in the next firmware. the search function i am sure will be incorporated in the next firmware. since they withdrew r2aa i am sure they have something in store. probably they decided to make a very good quality testing rather than unstable and untested firmwares. i do agree r2l is the stablest so far.
