So I was very happy today when one of our fellow Esato members sent me an invite to Gmail. I opened an account right away.

Five hours later I received my first Spam mail!!!!!

I hadn't even used my Gmail yet.

How crazy is that!!!

Has anyone else had this problem???

I have had gmail for about 4 months now... and no spam goes into my inbox... it automatically goes directly into my spam folder, and i just delete it, its not so much a problem for me. I do have AOL so i rarley use it... but it is still pretty cool.

if anyone wants an invite, pm me

I'm getting spam in my gmail account- and I've never given that to anybody!

However, it goes straight into the spam folder for me too, not a problem, just surprising they've got the address, they must send spam to every possible letter combination

well hwne you sign up to gmail it does say that they will send you spam in there conditions.

They send you spam according to what mail you receive. Like i suscribe to pc reviews and now i get spam to buy pc parts.

Although this all appears in the spam section not the inbox.

@milay- I doubt that gmail would spam me with offers of penis extensions, prescription meds and pirated software, which are the ones I got!

You are aware that spammers generate random email addresses at known domain names?

i.e. They'll try every name they can think of @gmail.com in the hope that some of them are active valid email addresses.

That's why you got spam so quickly after opening your account. Even though you've never used or published your email address, you can't avoid this kind of spam!

They must really be after Gmail then because I don't get it to my Yahoo address.

An advice, if u make a long email name u wont get spam or at least not too much, If you open 2 accounts in the same day, 1 ex. joe001@gmail.com and 2 joesantispamaccountnumber1@gmail.com the first account will get a lot more spam that the second account. I have a 3yrs old hotmail account (with a very long name) and ive NEVER recived a single spam mail. My others accounts (with short names) get more than 3 spam mails a day.
