I'm from Egypt. I'm planning on using a Fujitsu/Siement Pocket Loox with the GPRS/GSM module and a Nextlink Bluespoon earphone/mic. I'm hoping that Click/Vodafone will not have a problem dealing with the GSM activation and hope that Mubarak allows the GPRS to work soon! Why not!??? |

Does anyone own a P900 in egypt?
i would really appreciate feedback about P900`s RF/signal,battery performance(with egypt`s Vodafone) and loudness of it`s 24 chord polytones?.

I'm going to Sharm El Sheik for a couple of days, and I want to use my laptop and GPRS to check my email and a particular web site from time to time. My operator has no GPRS roaming arrangement with any Egyptian operator. I've tried to search the http://www.Vodafone.com.eg website, but I could not find anything for me.
Have any of you experience with the Data SIM service? Would this be the best option for me?
I don't want the full package (Vodafone Mobile Connect Card), just a prepaid GPRS SIM for a couple of days. What about MobiNil? |

I own a P900 and am currently in Egypt with it. It's great. Signal strength and battery are much better than the P800 if you're familiar with it. Sounds are also much better. If not, tell me what specifics you'd like to know and I'll try to help.

Neither Vodafone nor MobiNiL offer prepaid GPRS, only on post-paid lines. The service is relatively new in Egypt. That's why there are still no GPRS roaming arrangements. I can't use my GPRS when I travel on my Egyptian lines yet. Vodafone started in April and MobiNiL in October but these things usually develp quite quickly in Egypt because the GSM market here is huge. I've tried the Vodafone Mobile Connect Card here and it works pretty well. Here's a thought you might want to consider though. Sharm El Sheikh is very close to each of Israel, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. I'm sure your network has GPRS roaming arrangements with at least one if not all of them. I know for a fact that when you are in Sharm El Sheikh you can access these networks most of the time through manual network selection, instead of the default [automatic] Egyptian networks. I tried once before and was able to operate on some of these networks. Sound like a plan? Tell me what you think.

Thanks for the reply. I've done some more research but found that only Israel are offering GPRS roaming. The coverage map does not seem to include Sharm El Sheikh 
But I will try it anyway when arrive. If not, I think I will go for Mobile Connect Card. Even if it seems quite expensive. Is it required to be a Egyptian citicent to buy this package?
If MCC and GPRS is too expensive, maybe dail-up will be a better solution. I guess I will be online 30-60 minutes a day. And I have seen the Holiday plan.

I don't think you will find it on the coverage map because Sharm El Sheikh is in Egypt and I guess the coverage map (that which you attached) would only include the coverage inside Israel. I think the Israeli networks have relay points which make it possible for them to cover Sharm El Sheikh because a lot of Israeli holidaymakers go to Sharm El Sheikh because it's so close. If that's not the case, then the coverage will be because Sharm is just so close to Israel (it's just over 1 hour by car) so you actually 'snoop' your way into the network
Concerning other connectivity options, I can ask about the price of the Vodafone Mobile Connect card for you but I don't think it's cheap - at least not cheap enough if you're only going for a few days.
Here's what I think is your best option:
Get a regular prepaid card from Vodafone or MobiNiL. Access regular dial-up internet. Internet is free here in Egypt - you just dial the number and don't need to input a username or password and you're connected. That way you don't need to subscribe to an ISP - you'll just be paying the prepaid card charge.

How long does the battery last?
If u have used other Ericsson or nokia models b4,how do u compare p900`s RF to them?
where is ur p900 made(china or france)?
Can the p900 polyphonic ringtones be heard in noisy places/outdoors?
how loud is the ear volume and how clear is the speech quality?
Did u access GSM (csd) or GPRS wap on Vodafone with ur P900?
sorry to annoy u but i have lots of questions as my decision depends on opinions of users in egypt and by the way,i have loads of poly tones n java(j2me) games if ur interested,hope that the p900 supports any j2me application.
