if i bought a sony ericsson phone with mem stick, could i use the camera mem stick on it?

Ok... Memorysticks are larger than their Duo counterparts.
Pro versions are the newer standards... Pro sticks are not compatible with the original slots... but the Pro slots can use both Pro and non-pro sticks.
Since Duos are smaller, they come with an adapter that makes them full size memorysticks. So you can use Duos in standard Memorystick slots (rules stated above for Pro Duos still apply)
Ok, for MAXIMUM compatibility between Pro/Non-Pro/Duo/Regular devices and sticks, you're best bet are the regular Memorystick Duos. These can be used with ANY MS device... SE phones, Sony cams, camcorders, etc...
Next would probably be the Pro Duos (again because they come with full size adapters) but they do not work with older MS/MS Duo devices.
The full size Memorystick Pros do offer the larger capacities however. With a planned capacity of 2GB.

I am using a Duo (128mb) and a ms adaptor in my Sony Cybershot P120. If the need arises I shoot a pic then move the duo into my P900 and e-mail the pic. voila. That was the reason I bought the Sony P120 to have a compatible format with my P900.

No phones use full size MemoryStick?
The P800, P900, Z1010 & S700 can use MemoryStick Duo but NOT Pro.
The P910 & V800 can use MemoryStick Duo Pro.
Also the P905 (P900 with P910 firmware) can use Duo Pro

Sony have also just released memory stick pro high speed cards, though afaik its only the v800 that supports the pro cards, Im not sure if it can take advantage of the high speed part. |

Should have mentioned, the high speed cards apply to the whole range of memory sticks.

V800, P910 & P905 can use Duo Pro (as I've already said) but I don't think they can make use of the HighSpeed feature
