My thoughts on the K700 compared to Nokias |

Right, just got my K700 yesterday and now I'll post some comments. I've previously used these Nokias: 5110, 7110, 3510, 7210, 8310, N-Gage, 6820, 6630
BAD THINGS
-text input lag is pretty bad, even worse than I thought. My 5110 in 1998 was faster.
-In the SE UI, there is no "go straight back to idle screen" function, like what the end call key does in Nokias. You always have to go to the previous menu first. Luckily the menus aren't that complicated so it doesn't take long.
-In the phonebook, viewing the contact's info is behind too many button presses. Unlike in Nokias.
-the joystick & keypad are uncomfortable to use and not very responsive, every Nokia I've used was better
-No user customizable message alert tones. The 8310 from 2001 had it and every Nokia since.
-Answer lag. There seems to be a 2 second silence after I've chosen to answer a call. Never had this in Nokias.
-Earpiece voice quality. Clearly worse than in N-Gage and 6630.
-And finally, isn't it about time they made the idle screen softkeys user customizable?
GOOD THINGS
-Build quality. Very classy and professional.
-Screen. Nicely bright. Has a narrower viewing angle than the N-Gage and 6630 though.
-Ringtone quality. I love the baby one! No WAV support though.
-Bluetooth. Had no problems recieving contacts and ringtones from an N-Gage.
-Camera. The shortcut button comes in handy. The light also helps.
-General UI features: themes, some option menus, menu layouts
It's not as good as I expected but I'll keep it for now.

Mine seems fine

If you hold down the return button it goes straight back to the idle screen from anyway!

Are you sure? what do you need to see... name and number is enough.

Again i think your being picky (maybe you got yourself a faulty phone mine seem's to work fine and feel fine)

All personal opinions and nothing to really bitch about.. only thing i reacted to was the phonebook part, i think itīs a great solution to dab joystick right to get more info about a contact, i donīt know if you (Flying Finn) count joystick moves as keypresses?
IMO the last good looking Nokia was the 6100, display quality was dismal though. Latest Nokia lineup looks to me like some bad acid trip with commercials to match

joebmc, I was being very neutral. Thanks for the new info btw. I'm pretty sure my K700 is not a faulty one. The keypad comfort is definately not as good as what I'm used to, and that's a shame.
In the phonebook I wish pressing the joystick wouldn't call the selected contact but open the "more info" fields.
I'm also very serious about the earpiece quality. It was not that special in the 3510 for example but the Series 60 phones I've tried really shine. The K700 is nothing but average.
lol, I'm a student with limited amounts of money and I paid 380 euros for the K700. I think I favor SE over Nokia.

Do you use T9? The best ever was Nokia 3110.

4 joystick directions not enough?
I have looked into secveral Nokia's lately and found them confusing and to me what is on the screen is so ugly. I prefer the SE interface style. Personal subjective preference.

Do you find it difficult to push joystick right and get all avaliable info then? How is it done on Nokias nowadays? Push gives you more info i guess, but what about if you want to call the contact? Do you have to push another button then? That doesnīt sound so easy or logical either 
It all comes down to personal preferences i guess.. i am still "learning" my V3 and have already found both brilliant and really dumb features/solutions but thatīs true for ALL phones IMO.

Just an interesting aside...i see you are comparing the k700 to a large range of nokias...are you of the opinion that a lot of nokias are just the same phone in a different shell?

Well you got to admit the k700 is a good phone if not better than most (and i say most not all) other brands in its range (but remember the k700 is getting quite old now for the mobile world )

Also, i find your comparison a little unfair. You are taking the best parts from each nokia, and comparing them against one phone, the k700. For example, you say the screen is good, but not as wide as the n-gage. The k700 isnt in competition with the n-gage. It would be more fair if you picked a phone in direct cometition with the k700 to do a comparison, instead of a whole host of phones, and picking the best aspects available from the bunch. Just a thought.

Its like taking the best parts of the whole bmw range and compairing them to just one model of merc (as if the merc should have all the best parts)!

while I agree with what you are saying I think you're being a bit harsh and personal (presumably because flying finn has mostly commented on Nokia previously).
I am sure the intention was never to compare the whole nokia history with one phone to try and belittle the K700 as that just wouldn't make any sense
flying finn is trying to give us his personal feedback of his 1 day experience on the K700 compared with his whole Nokia experience, and indeed the title doesn't specifiy any single nokia, so when I read this when it was first posted I read it with that scope in mind and it does seem a fair summary for a new convert to give
anyway lets hope that can read into some of this and perhaps one day come up with a better phone that doesn't have so many problems, and maybe better functionality, from the start

Anyone going from a certain brand (that they've been using for age's) to another are bound to prefer the first brand of phone as there used to the UI (just like me when i got my first ericsson). now that i've used se from about three years im very used to se's UI.
The other day i had to turn on delivery reports on a nokia for my sister and my god did i find the nokia UI annoying, I never remebered it being thats bad... but then i'm now used to SE!

what you are saing is true and I have had to get used to the motorola and the i-mate in the last month. Indeed I haven't used an for 2 weeks now and I haven't missed it because these feel so much better
getting back to the point I think its fair enough for commentary like this when someone goes to a new brand and I am sure when I write my V3 and SP3i reviews I will be doing the same as flying finn and comparing them back to various phones
