Hi,

I was just wondering, how much does it cost to buy a flat or house where you live? I am only asking, as I will be travelling quite a bit in connection with my occupation. I'll mostly be working in the Americas and Asia (South-east). I'll probably not spend more than 6 months - 1 year in each location, luckily with the company footing the bill for housing, however I am still interested in prices around the world.

I have previously lived in a place called Hellerup, which is a suburb of the Danish capital of Copenhagen. Prices were pretty high, but not nearly as expensive as London. I now live next to Tower Bridge, London, UK. Here, (studio) flats start at around £180.000 (US$ 290.000). 1 Beds are £215.000-£275.000 (US$ 350.000-445.000), 2 Beds are £260.000-400.000 (US$ 420.000-650.000), 3 Beds are £375.00-750.00 (US$ 608.000-1.215.000) etc. The most expensive flats around here are the riverside penthouses which cost between £1.250.000-£3.000.000 (US$ 2.025.000-4.861.000) , however there was on which fetched £4.125.000 (US$ 6.684.000) recently.

Anyway, I'd be interested to hear what the property market is like where you live. It needn't be accurate or in depth, just a rough idea of how much a flat or house would cost in your area.

Thanks [addsig]

Funny you mention this....I heard on the news about a small town in texas somewhere can't remember the name!....5 bed Houses are selling there now for $10 or even free as the locals are moving out due to high unemployment...The locals are so desperate to sell that they can't wait so they practically hand over the property to any takers money or not!...Amazing!...They would have much more respect for their propertys if they came to the u.k and see the sky high prices! Exactly. I actually remember watching a program on the bbc about a small village up north, where they could not sell their houses because of the effects of foot & mouth a couple of years ago. The army (well, probably the Home Office) had designated fields adjoining the village to be 'mass graves' for all the cattle that had been slaughtered and burned. Apparantly, there was quite a whiff... As far as I know, they still can't sell their houses. Now that has got to suck!

Anyway, @ anyone else, how much does property cost where you come from? [addsig]

Kilmarnock (Ayrshire, Scotland)...one bedroom flat £48000....or you can have the same thing fully furnished for £50 a week, which is a bargain. Yeah the same thing happened with the foot and mouth thing around Dumfries and Lockerbie, it was putrid. Who in gods name would spend a million quid on a flat...my god, London isnt that great.

Irritating enough you can buy property in LA and Beverly Hills (4 or 5 rooms houses) that's cheaper than the same property here in Amsterdam

Housing prices here are totally insane and over the top

not that this really matters to you @london_uk.
houses in perth are averaging around $350 000AUD to $500 000. the cheapest being $80 000 to $150 000 and the dearest being upwards of $6 000 000AUD.
apartments are a bit more expensive with the penthouses being around $4 500 000 for 3 bedroom
