Using car kit at home |

You often see these car kits which include an external aerial to stick on a window, i assume these aerial include some sort of active signal booster to improove reception? What i was wondering is if i can get hold of an old ericsson car kit and stick the aerial outside and the phone go the cradle and run the lot off a 12v supply? Would this work and help the poor signal i get at home?

You could quite easily do that. My HCA20 car kit is running off my cigarette lighter socket oin my car and could easily transferred to a indoor 12v supply. The aerial is not amplified in any way, it gets a better signal by being about 5-6 time bigger than the aerial built into the phone.

Of course it would! But usually these antennas are not powered, they're just high gain antennas. But your idea will work.
Which phone were you planning to use it on? Just to let you know that the antenna connectors on Ericsson/SonyEricsson phones differ from model to model, with only a few of them sharing similar connectors.

The antenna connector is under the mirror on the t610 right? If its not powered thats even easier, how is it connected to the outside aerial? It wired through the window rubber or something?

It is under the mirror. How the aerial gets outside depends on the aerial. Most stick to the inside of the window with the aerial part on the outside. Somehow the signal goes through the window.
