Just thought i would start this thread so we could reminisce on the good old times of the greatest rasslin' promotion ever.
Who is everyones favourite WCW wrestler / champion?
Any memorable moments etc.

My favourite champion would have to be the one and only 14 time heavyweight chamion of the world THE NATUREBOY RIC FLAIR!!!
WOOOOO!!!!!!

i admit to hating the nWo but have to give them thier dues to turning people away from that other pile of crap. although i did like Kevin Nash's Wolfpack, i loved that red tshirt with the wolfs head on it.

memorable moments would include Kevin Nash launching "the human dart" Rey Misterio Jr into an ob truck in 96/97
or Miss Hancock (Stacy Kiebler) dancing on the announcers table in a very short skirt and Mike Tenay saying "if my wife is watching this, i would like to assure her i am looking at the action in the ring"

The real thing i loved about WCW was the way they never took themselves seriously. i remember one of Hulk Hogan's (boo hiss) many comebacks.
i think the two announcers were Larry Zbysko and Mike Tenay:

(hogans music starts during an ongoing match)
MT: is that? yes it is, thats hogans music! who knew he was going to be here tonight?
LZ: everyone. cant you read? just look at your format. section 15, hogan comes out and hits (somebody) during his match against (somebody).
whats the matter with you? its there right in front of you.
(Tenay stays quiet, obviously dumbstruck)

dont get me wrong, i know even that bit was scripted but it was just the sort of thing that you would never catch the crappy wwe doing, then or today.

one lasting memory i will always have was on the very last nitro when Flair and Sting wrestled a bit of a goodbye match then hugged each other.
these were two men who during thier time at WCW never got on. i think Sting, in real life, always resented Flair because until he arrived Sting was the poster boy. but although "moody" Sting wasnt great, i always admired him and thought that him and Flair would make a great tag team away from the 4 Horsemen.

i will never understand how a company's biggest rival coul just buy thier competition and create a monopoly. this would never be allowed to happen in the uk.
i realise WCW lost thier way a bit towards the end, but i had faith in Bischoff turning things around if his deal with Ted Turner hadnt fallen through.

Whats the problem in WWE buying out WCW? Its not a monopoly in the sense that it wouldnt affect consumers in any way. I understand sentimentalism but its naiveity to suggest that such a merger wouldnt have been allowed in the uk. the government has much b

i watched 2 shows of post-WCW raw and i found it pathetic. they made idiots of the ex-WCW guys who didnt jump ship till after the end, they learnt nothing of the past 4 years and still went around with thier heads up thier butts "we are the best" etc. er, no!.
i havent watched a wrestling show since. while i agree with you its not like an electricity company buying up all its rivals, you must agree its not in the best interests of the fans, advertisers etc.

edit: was WCW big in India?
i know in Germany it was huge, much bigger than wwe. at one time it was on 5 nights a week.

nah... It was never as big as WWE in India. It was shown here for maybe 2 years while WWE was around longer. I guess it didnt have as much pizzaz as WWE which is more favoured here.

Sting, and (Good, not Evul! ) Goldberg were always my 2 reasosn to watch that show.
WCW got on with wrestling, like WWF used to do in the days of Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Hulk, Macho Man, ultimate warrior, jake the snake, all the old school ones.. Back before it used ot be about acting.

Theres no doubt those guys put alot into their bodies and training but the shows themselves are about as scripted as Melrose place. :/

Towards the end it got too wrapped up in itself, but no worse than WWF/WWE became.

I rember the insane fight that Sting had vs that other guy (whose name escapes me) undead something a rathe,r looked liek a clowne, and when they went off that 40 foot high railing.

Luckily all the wrestling here is on paytv now so I don't get to see any of it

yea i remember the guy who had a feud with sting, he had short black dreads and had his face painted white, ill remember his name sooner or later!

speaking of Duggan i remember one hardcore match when he came out with a skip full of stuff and started chucking everything into the ring, near the bottom one of the announcers said "hes got everything but the kitchen sink in there!" then sure enough out came a kitchen sink. classic! [addsig]

yea, they stopped sting dropping into the ring like that after what happened to Owen Hart in wwe.
edit: Hart would still be alive if wwe didnt copy every idea from WCW in the late 90s.......
