replacement tft for t610 |

Forgive me if there is already a topic on this I've checked and i can't find anything on it.
First of all I'd like to say how friendly I find all you members, you're such a big help to everyone, so experience and advanced and this is one of my favourite forums to lurk in because of that. I hope you can help me with my little problem! And long live Esato!<3<3<3
(This is just the story of how it was broken, you don't really need to read this, I just thought I'd add it in anyway.)
------------------------------------------------
I bought a 2nd hand sony ericsson t610 on ebay in late February of this year and its been absolutely fantastic! I was thrilled at being able to use file transfer with bluetooth between my PC and my phone and I took great care of it ALL the time. Not so much as a scratch.
So, yesterday, my friend asks me for money and I say sure its in my coat pocket and she lifts my coat up the wrong way and (ironically, in my rush to be on time for school) that's the day I've forgotten to put my phone back in its leather case which i left in the phone pocket of my bag and low and behold...CLANG. It falls to the floor.
So I pick it up and stare openmouthed, it has a tv-line effect of the screen 3/4 of the way down where every other line of pixels has gone out.
I get home all ratty and upset with my friend for being so careless but I decided I can make do with my phone, if I want to read a text I'll just have to fwd it and insert paragraphs until the text moves to the bottom quarter of the screen where all the pixels work and I can read it clearly.
So then today I get to school, have a boring time up until lunch, walk out the room to the toilet to re-apply my make-up, get back and Steph is sitting there with he head down and my phone on the floor at her feet.
Yep, you guessed it. Dropped again by one of my friends.
This time half the screen on the left hand side is just a block of dead pixels, there is a large, ugly yellow patch going diagonally across it, the bottom quarter of the screen has tv lines and there are 1 or 2 lines of pixels flashing wildly from blue to white.
By now the phone is really pretty useless, eveything else works but you can't see what you're doing. (I tried to take a picture with my digi cam but it's too blurry so, you can just imagine how awful it looks!)
--------------------------end of ramble
So, here's the deal, my colour screen is basically busted.
I really don't want any other model of phone other than the t630 (the slightly later model) I'm utterly attatched to my t610 but I don't have the money to buy the same model again. I saved up for months and even got a part-time job which was hell to get my parents to allow.
I've been trying to get a quote on the price for a new screen (yes, I know you're all thinking I might as well just get a new phone) because I thought i'd check out the price of just a new screen (Hey, if it's low enough I might even be able to get Becca and Steph to chip in [who both played a big part in making it this way if you didn't read the story beforehand]) I've had no luck so far. The Sony Ericsson help address told me to submit my query elsewhere multiple times and my local store says they cannot supply me with a quote as the model is too outdated (which it isn't) and they would have to contact SE befor they could give me even an estimate.
So, if any of you guys have some advice or some information regarding a new screen for my colour t610 please, please post!
Thankyou for taking the time to read this horribly long post!
NV

sorry to hear about your phone. i would get a new screen from ebay thats what i did, however instead of getting the rubbish STN t610 screen i got the TFT t630 screen and just changed the firmware. i would recommend just the t610 screen for you though. if you are not confident in doing this, i will make you a little tutorial if you like, as it is a little fiddley at times. |

Thankyou Staz! Much appreciated!
gbrooks, Oh yes! I didn't think to check ebay. How silly of me. Though, I'm really bad with taking phones apart. I broke my t68i trying to change the cover. I broke the volume slider =/ I don't trsut myself with them anymore. Though...I guess I could get it done at a phone shop ?_? Could you tell me the difference between a tft anf an stn? ^^;; I'm not sure on that. Thankyou very much, that would be great if you have the time! I'll check ebay. Thankyou again!

By the way. The screen on a T610 is'nt a tft but is an lcd. You can buy the tft screen from a t630 and fit that but you will also have to change the firmware from t610 to t630 standard which is not really worth doing cos for the price of doing it you could buy a new t630 and have some pennies left over. Will pm you the info soon.

Have done a search for T610 on Global Mobility's site and found everything you will need regarding spares for your T610. Replacement LCD screen is on page 2:-
http://www.globalmob.com/cart[....]tring=T610&in_category=&page=1
Mobile Fun also lists the replacement screens (£22.99). A search on their site brought these results:-

just be careful and its not so hard. i've heard completely untechnical people say it was easy.
and i would also suggest getting a TFT T630 LCD instead of the original T610 STN one. it is much prettier and brighter.
then you'd need a terminator dongle which now are about $20USD and the firmware and DIV 5 software, which i can help you with. then with a litte more patience, you'll have a complete T630 in T610 housing!
