i have recently bought a k500 and i have noticed a very irritating problem: if i edit the phone number of a contact, it also kinda overwrites the number of the next contact - only the "overwriting" is visible in the list view only, if i edit the next contact, its proper number is visible there. if i save the bugged contact, sometimes the number viewed in the list is corrected, sometimes i have to actually edit the number (even if i do not change it) before i save, in order to correct the list view. BUT this also overwrites the NEXT contact again and i have to go all the way through the phone book, bumping the bug to the end. i have saved the correct phone book to the sim in order to be able to quickly restore it if it gets messed up, but that is driving me nuts. the firmware is R2L001. is this a known bug?

i figured the bug out - it actually happens if you have a person with two numbers and delete the default number - obviously the phone fails to set the remaining number as default and gets mixed up as to which record to display. having just a single number you do not get an option to set default, so you need to add a dummy number, set the correct default and delete the dummy. all my numbers were affected, because when i imported my phone book from the sim card, the phone set all the numbers as "home" numbers, while 95% of the numbers are mobile numbers; since i could not find a way to change the designation of a number, i had to add the numbers again as "mobile", and all the "home" records i deleted were actually the default numbers and the phonebook went nuts.

Thanks lanzz!

Had a very similar problem with my K700 today and it was cracking me up! was considering switching my address book to Sim numbers instead of contacts, was able to sort it thanks to your tip, only difference was I was able to set the default number even if that contact only had one number entry so it was just a matter of going through each contact and setting the default number. Just a pity you cant change the designation of a number without having to re-enter it and then delete the old one.

you don't have to actually re-enter it - when you are entering a number, before you have entered any digits the left soft key is "look it up" and allows you to load any existing number from the phonebook.

*bump*

.. just found this topic and was wondering if there is any -real- solving to this issue? - i have the latest firmware; but this sucks. too bad i'm going away tomarrow, but the second i get back home i'm sending this little puppy back to the store i bought it from..

.. i mean; i could deal with midi's changeing names and stuff; but when the error/bugs in the phonebook im pretty much screwed .. Too bad.. i really liked k500 instead of the k700. really nice keypad and slim design. grr. Does the k700 suffer from this error also?

your midis change name??? wierd.. i had the problem of no names onthe mp3's in my media player(some of them) to get of with the phone book bug, there is a way. dont set deault numbers at a go. after setting default number, get out of the phone book by pressing return key and go in again to change the next one. this way you will not have that error.

nono.. the midis dont change names.. it was just an example..

tomorrow i'm calling my shop and asking for a refund and getting a k700 and paying the difference. can stand the phonebook-bug; and also i've been getting wierd sms errors that i have -never- got with my old nokia. Was off on a worktrip and didn't get any sms .. my girlfriend rang and asked if i had gotten them.. so i figured; it might be the same errors i get with GPRS surfing.. after a 10minutes or so while surfing; it hangs.. and doesn't work until i reboot..

.. so i rebooted the phone; and voila! - 8 new sms.. :/

really wierd bugs.. but i have faith in my store that i'll be able to exange phones. been shopping there for around 10 years or so.. ahwell. pity about the phone. love the design more then the k700.. but is the inside that matters
