K700i java question |

Hi all, ive been visiting here since I got my T68i so long ago, cant remember if I ever did post before. Anyway, ive got a couple of questions about the K700i, one java question in particular.
Is it possible for java apps to access files stored locally on the phone itself? A major problem with the 700 is the lack of fast forward / rewind. I know this has the focus of many a topic but ive never actually found a solution. So would a downloadable Java media player app be possible? (or any other solution)
2nd question, I dont know a great deal about updating the Firm Ware, but with an orange branded phone would it be possible to update to RL2? If not is it possible to debrand the phone without putting it at risk? And while im talking about brands, i know Orange have messed around with a few features like the shortcuts accessed by the directional pad, but have they taken any features away without any way to get to them?
And one last one, il do pretty much anything to reserve battery power, but does keeping Bluetooth on significantly decrease battery life?
Thanx in advance.

From what I know, a java application can access system resources if it is signed. Technically, a Java application needs to be signed if it requires access beyond what is known as a "sandbox". The amount of resources/access given to an application within the sandbox varies from one platform to another (i.e. Web browsers, embedded systems, desktop applications etc.) From what I've seen so far, it seems quite likely that a Java media player could be created to access the file system on a cellphone.
I personally feel that the media player within the K700i sucks! I have written to SE about this... I guess that they'll finally do something if many people write in!
As for Bluetooth, don't leave it switched on always as it increases battery drain! Use it only when required.
Cheers.

Thanks buddy. The media player is really pretty damn awful, I almost referred to it as "bog standard" but it isnt even that. Having a phone with top features to make any friend jealous and then having to use a media player with as many options as a pair of socks (actually if you count sock puppets K700 loses) just plain sucks. I think I might have a bit of a rant to SE as well. |

Glad to be of help!
Hopefully, you'll get a better response from Sony than this - "We appreciate your kind suggestion and we will forward them to the concerned department."
I guess I'll just have to send repeated requests till they actually get down to doing something!
As a software developer I often chop MSDN videos into half hour segments to watch while commuting. But it turns out to be very frustrating when the damn media player lacks even the most basic commands! Oh, and another problem with the Media player is the lack of volume when you play videos with the handsfree attached!
The K700i is a good phone, but Sony Ericsson really needs to start listening to what their consumers want!
