Hello my Esatorians its been almost 2 months now that I was off line from the site. The reason was business as usual.

I was travelling between China and South Korea all this time on a vessel.

I noticed that I had a signal on my SE P900 and Panasonic G51 on a maximum range of 55 miles away from land in China with the network CHN CMCC. I personally believe that this distance is way to long unless am mistaken. However, what really made me wonder was the fact that one night in South Korea, around 05:30 in the morning, I heard the signal sound of the three clicks, when a network connection is established, with CHN CMCC on the display and the quality of the signal was two bars for about 2 minutes. I know that in S.Korea they have CMDA network so its not possible to get a connection.

This has only happened once and I know that this is impossible. Does the atmosphere has to do anything with that? What can be the maximum signal distance? I know that this depends on the power usage from the GSM antennas. Any feedbacks will be appreciated.

see below

"The cell radius can vary depending on the antenna height, antenna gain and propagation conditions from couple of hundred meters to several tens of kilometers. Because of the timeslot (time period allocated to one call) overlap that occurs when calls are maintained at large Handset-Basestation separations, practically 35 km is the longest distance GSM specification supports, though the specifications define an extended cell, where the cell radius could be double or even more. This is done by utilizing 2 timeslots per user, so the call has a better chance hitting the right timeslot"

so it seems, theoretically at least, that you could have got a signal that far away.

Actually I was going several trips from China to S.Korea and vise versa.
The total time from China To S.Korea and back is 6 days.

@scorpionking

Well noted but I still dont understand how was it possible to get a signal from CHN CMCC all the way to S.Korea!?
