Had exactly the same thing happen to me a few days ago...
Had to phone up about a billing error (which was sorted out no problem), and while I was talking to them, I asked about the firmware issue...
Girl on the phone had no idea what I was talking about, so she got hold of her supervisor or something, they said... "You have to talk to SE about it, Orange have nothing to do with the firmware".
