Crashes, that's just part of the reason. Since the first windows, it's been so buggy and the new versions just keeps getting more and more complicated but not stable. I think the most stable so far is the w2k/w2k3 but even that still has a lot of unsolved issues. XP? just cosmetics IMO. The worst part is that we don't have much of a choice.

Yeah, lots of people lose productivity time when their computers crash. Earlier this year when I worked on PC with Windows 2000, it would crash at least 4 times in a 5-day week, something which wasted a lot of time. Right now I'm working on a Mac and it hardly ever crashes as my much as the PC.

I have converted to Linux, and I am very happy with my choice. My laptop never crashes, I don't have to be afraid for viruses etc. I also don't have to restart the computer when I install new programmes.

@brix, I'm with you on the Mac! Even the old MC68xxx series based Macs were stable and faster than any Windows based PC on the same level. It's a real Plug and Play machine while a PC is "Plug and Pray"!
The new PowerPCs rule!
@kristaga, Microsoft should learn from Unix based OS like Linux, FreeBSD, etc. because they're using the same hardware.

not necessarily. Windows is only software running on the same PC that runs a more stable Unix OS. It's like a bad firmware on a good phone, I think.

I have very little experience with Win mobile but I believe it's practically a trimmed-down version of Windows. I should expect it to be somewhat unstable too but not as much as the full Windows since mobile's are not that complicated compared to full blown PCs. I'm sure though that they share some common architecture so as to maintain compatibility.
