T610 soon to be discontinued |

Yesterday in a news summary in a swedish financial morning paper, Dagens Industri (http://www.di.se) there was a short statement: "According to Sony Ericsson T610 is to be discontinued and soon to be replaced by other models".
There was however no full article, just that summary and no link to the original article.
I guess SE is waiting to announce new models just because not to disturb the sales of the very succesful K700 and S700 before christmas. |

Hmm, I've been searching but nowhere I can find a discussion about yesterdays (2004-11-01) article in DI...
I'll be happy if you could provide me with a link.

Is that true?
Store up on your original replacement covers fast. I always want mine to look as good as the day I got it.

I am afraid it won´t be a collectors item for quite some time yet, not with the enormous amounts sold. Wouldn´t sweat over parts either, still no problem getting T10 fascias OEM new
Well maybe SE will have shorter shelf life than /// before a model is phased out entirely.

Eh...
Just a wee bit of info; Manufacorers of tecnical devices are obliged to cover a certain after market of spare parts for a certain amount of time. Its not that much of a hurry.

And you can have other market to get your supplies from, as T610/616 is just being introduced in some Latin American markets, so you have plenty of time.

And, besides of the message that they will discontinue. Maybe thay will only discontinue the developping of the firmware/platform.
Maybe the production will stay. |

Slightly off-topic (sorry !) .... Which /// or phone has the longest production run ? The T68 ? |

Is there really a market for a top of the range T series now?
I mean is there a requirement for a mid - high end candybar handset without Video now that the K300 is out?
It looks like the T series is set to become a low-end only model now seeing as T series = no video and K series = with video.

The 630 too will be discontinued in that case.

T610 is one of the best selling SE phones, i dont think SE will remove that or the t630 in the near future

It most probably costs too much to make at todays selling price.

@m100
that may be true in some cases but if a model becomes ultra successful then the company is getting a better return on it's initial investment.
It is funny to me how the K300 has took on the T610's Piano blackand Aluminium styling? - as if the k300i IS the replacement for the T610. |
