firmware update(R2L) on hong kong k700 in Australia? |

The bitch in my local service centre told me that i can't update my k700i phone (imported from hong kong) because it's "not compatible with the Australian programming. If i install the update it will kill the phone" (i was thinking wtf this is the first i've heard of this...).
My k700i has got the R2A firmware on it and i just wanted to upgrade to the R2L. Someone please tell me what she said is Bullshit because i've never heard of "hong kong firmware" and "Australian Firmware". Anybody help? |

Yes, there are like 15 or so different language packs as part of the firmware. Your HK phone has traditional Chinese, English for the menu interface, while the Australia version definitely does not have Chinese.
Technically they are able to upgrade your phone to the latest HK version, but they are under no obligation to do so since your HK phone does not carry an international warranty valid in Australia.
Most service points in western Europe will gladly upgrade your phone to the latest firmware of the same language pack. For countries outside of western Europe, I wish you good luck. |

Hey Bro, I went through the same thing, I live in New Zealand. My SE service centre said they could do it, but if anything went wrong that they would not be liabale.
Anyways, I brought a DSS-25 from a place here in NZ for $89NZD and went to the SE site and upgraded my firmware to R2L (huge improvement) My phone is also from hongkong, I take it you got yours cheap off ebay like me
Anyways, your phone will be fine, just buy the docking station upgrade and sell it on trademe or similar, or hang on to it for future firmware upgardes.
If you need any more info or links just ask
PS we are going to win the tri nations |

I take it you brought the K700i and not the K700c which would mean your phone is not in chinese

Thanks for the reply's people. Just another quick question - if i were to get the syncstation (dss-20 or 25) and go to the SE update page, does the site actually recognise what version of firmware the phone has and install the correct one?
p.s. Australia is gonna win all the way baby |

The online update service will check your phone to see if you have the latest firmware, you can check this yourself by unlocking your phone and going >*<<*<* and then to service info and then to software info.
If you have R2A? your phone will be buggy as, mine was shocking. But R2L is awesome, no problems yet
The whole process doesnt take very long at all if you have broadband. Just remember to disable your firewall.
PS. Aussie will win tri nations, Mason smashed the poms on the wknd! But we did ok in the first match, Sonny Bill is gonna be a big star. And Ali is playing for the kiwis this wknd too which will give the Brits a fright |
