NEC hasn’t made much of an impact on the cellphone market in the States, but apparently they’re making another go of it with the 232, a new cellphone that they’re going to market to women and that comes pre-installed with fitness and health software apps like a BMI calculator, heart rate tracker, and a calorie counter (they also have a marketing partnership with Fitness magazine). We won’t get in to the whole thing about whether or not it’s lame/chauvinist to assume that the trick to selling a cellphone to women is to convince them that it’ll help them lose weight, so we’ll just revert to form and mention that the EDGE-enabled 232 will also have a built-in VGA quality camera and 5MB of memory.
